Converting the Moki 1.8 to gas

Has anyone tried to convert the thirsty but powerful Moki 1.8 to gas?

Tools? I like to refer to them as ordnance.

Less power, more heat, same oil content (no needle bearings), added weight of ignition...

It looks like moki/mark is producing a petrol version of this engine, check their site http://www.model-engine-sales.com/indexang.htm.

Warren,
I agree on your points...but I would like to mention a couple of the positives to converting if I may:

1/3 the size of fuel tank needed (which well offsets weight of ignition and battery), cheaper fuel, and lower constuption rate of fuel.

Another negitive is higher inital cost of motor, pumped carb, and time involved in conversion (unless you REALLY enjoy it).

I personally think ANY displacement above a 1.20 cu in is worth "playing with" if your up for the challenge.

Just don't expect a performance INCREASE by converting to gas in the smaller displacements.

Good Luck!

I would like to add reliability to my engine. I had two deadsticks with the Moki and almost lost a plane that took me a lot to complete. I replaced with a Quadra 35cc, but the weight and vibration of the latter is takig its toll on the airframe.

If you are after reliablity. why not convert it to cdi and keep running glow fuel? The cdi will keep it running when a glow plug would quit and die. Only drawback is the cost of the 1/4-32 sparkplugs.

Get in touch with these folks [link]http://www.ch-ignitions.com/[/link], they have a bolt on kit for a Moki.
