engine starting question
 

hi! is it possible to hand flip start a homelite 25cc all stock? i have tried to do it but without success. maybe its because it still has a pullstart in it. i am planning to remove the pullstart but first make sure how i will start it afterwards. many thanks!

I have a couple and a friend hand starts them but I cannot do it.

There are two different ignition systems on the Homelites from the factory. The Walbro ignition works better than the Phelon.

Yes, I managed. mine was walbro, I also have one with the Phelon ignition and agree with Jim. An electric starter will easily turn over a stock homelite 25cc. If you want to hand start check the clearance between the flywheel and coil make it as small as possible without them touching. I could do it with two fingers close to the hub and a sharp flick, stock this engine is going to be tame and unlikely to bite(but be careful anyway).

i have a 25cc homy and a 30cc and i can start both with a couple of flips.both of mine have the walbro flywheel and coil.it just takes a little practice and the right procedure.put finger over carb and rotate to get fuel in engine,wet.put the magnets at about the 2 oclock position and alighn the prop with the magnets.put two fingers on the prop face and flick and push in a fast movement.its not power but speed that gets them started.you have to remove the pullstart also.

i use my standard electric starter i use on my 40 and 60 sized engines with no problems. i am a coward when it comes to flip starting [:o]

I have a Stihl blower engine with pull starter on the rear. Stand in front of the wing to restrain the airplane, choke and pull. Starts every time. A one-man operation. It is 7 ounces of the best starting arrangement that I have seen or used. Unfortunately most engines do not turn in the correct direction.

Last year at a warbird fly in the average number of flips to start was between 12 and 18. Some were observed flipping 40 to 100 times. Looks cool but flipping often does not work as expected. Did you come to fly or flip?
