Conversion newbie with a McCullogh 282
 

Hey guys...was gonna sell my McCullogh 282 Eager Beaver trimmer engine on Ebay but through the years have heard about converting these things to r/c airplane applications and decided to check it out. Is there a link or site that explains the basics in doing this?? Thanks, Bob.

Only place you will need help is getting the clutch off?

Thanks w8ye for the info. Looks easier than I thought but do I need to get the cdi unit you linked me to? Won't the original work ok? Also was just curious what size airplane I can mate to this engine, as my experience has been mostly 120 fourstroke glow on down.

Yes, look at the picture of the Mac in the Carr Precision site. It uses the original flywheel.

Not much cutting on a Mac. Just the back plate needs to be trimed to the outer deminsion of the case.

Look at the picture closely to see how to trim your coil mount.

The flywheel has been faced down to remove the outer part of the fins.

If your engine has a clutch on the front it will be a long shaft. If no clutch it will be a short shaft. Dave Carr at Carr Precision or Terry at C-H will need to know this when you order parts. The front hub is different on the two engines.

Get back on here as the problems come.
