Ryobi Powered RV-6
 

I'm going to start on a set of plans for a 27% RV-6 (about 81" span) with a 31cc Ryobi..

Anyone thing this would be a good combo?
What should my target weight be?

I have a Balsa USA Stringray 120 with a Ryobi 31cc engine that flys the plane very nicely. It has an 84" wing span with 1276 sq in wing area and weighs in at 14lbs. If your RV6 comes even close to these dimensions I think you'll have loads of fun with it. :D

Good to hear.. Slight revision..

it'll be a 30% scale RV-6..

I ran my first #'s with the RV-7 wingspan.. :)

So for a 30% RV-6 it would have the following specs

Span 82.8"
Wing Chord 17.28"
Area 1430.7 sq inches

Or if I go with a 27% RV-7

Span 81"
Wing Chord 15.5"
Area 1259.7 sq inches

I'll try and hit the 12-14lb mark.

What plans are you using for this project? I would be very interested in getting a set. By the way I had a 31 in a 14lbs plane and it was ok, would be very scale for a 150 horse RV-6

Looks like I'll be basing it off a set of enlarged RV-6F plans from RCM. From there I'll make what changes I need for weight and mounting the Ryobi.

I'll post a copy when I have em worked up. (I'm slow so give me some time)

Sounds good to me, I have access to a couple different full scale RV-6's if you would like pictures for your project.

Sounds like a great project. I have the EAM RV-6. It's electric, but I have flown it on a 91 surpass too. I did a review on it with both power systems for RCG. Fantastic flying plane, even though it weighs ten lbs you would never know it, it feels like a 6lb sport plane in the air, and does all the normal aerobatics very well. The flaps require no pitch trim, and are very effective. If yours flies like this one, you're gonna love it!
