I was actually looking at Morris Hobbies Jerry's Big Boy for my conversion plane. |

Jerry's Big Boy would be perfect for a 25cc to 40cc conversion engine. I have Brillelli 25GT engine on a Great Planes Big Stick that is very similar and it fly's great.

jpr72c Nice SPAD. I have one of Kraut's (31cc Ryobi) and one of Chris' Echo trainers. They are tough. I have made numerous landing gears systems and repairs but the planes take abuse.
SPAD alternatives in addition to the SPAD forum here at RCU: http://www.spadtothebone.com/SPAD/index.html for many plans including Kraut's Ultra Spad Stik and http://spadworld.net/forum/ in gasser section for Chris' and other builds. |
RE: Inexpensive options for an ARF w/ conversion engine.
rcbozo,
I have a big boy arf with a g23 on it. Am working on a featherlite conversion that should be lighter if I can ever get around to finishing it. I screwed up a cyl trying to get more power out of it and havent run across another cheap yet, so am stalled on that project. I shortened the nose on the arf about 2" to help with cg issues, and still ended up with the battery stuffed in the tail of the plane. It flies great, and came out about 9.5 lbs with the g23. Use a GOOD(bolly,nx,mense, etc) wood 18x6 prop with these size engines, I tried a 16x8 and hated it, not near as much thrust. MA's work better than Zinger, APC and plastic MA's are just too heavy to rev quickly, IMHO. Incidently, I got the g23 used for 150.00 off rcu and the arf was 112 shipped...you can get this stuff cheap if you are patient and watch e b a y, etc:D |
