Help neede identifying this engine
1 Attachment(s)
Hi All
I have had this trimmer engine for a very long time and now have an application in mind. The engine as pictured weighs 4 lbs 4 Ozs and has both carburetor and muffler in the back which is great for my application. The carb seats on a plastic adapter/spacer that can easily be removed and trimmed down, the front cover behind the flywheel is bolted to the crankcase and thus a conversion to glow running on E85/gas mixture is very attractive. My goal is to have the engine at no more than 40 ozs. ready to go into the airplane. The engine appears to be around 25 cc (1.3 Cu. In.) Can any one help identify it? Comments as to what performance might be expected with a 16-8 prop? Thanks to all who can offer advice Best Regards Joshua Harel[img][/img] |

RE: Help neede identifying this engine
Yep, it's a Ryobi. Almost surely a 31cc. (They made a 28 and a 31cc, but the 28cc had smaller top fins on the head.) Moderate performance. You'll need to add a larger carb and free flowing exhaust. 16 x 8 or 18 x 6 are good size props. E-85 won't work for glow however. (Been there tried that.) It's made of ethanol. The glow plug needs methanol to catalyze. There is a long thread about glow operation of these motors here in the engine conversion forum. Lot's of info.
