What cc is Weedeater 1500 engine

I love tickering in this hobby and was saving an old Weedeater 1500 to convert. I stripped it from its trimmer housing, but am not able to identify the size of the engine. Since most of the numbers start with "28", I am assuming that it is a 28cc motor. Any help with identifying the size and thrust output would be greatly appreciated. Also, can anyone recommend conversion parts for this motor. Thanks again.

Hi rev,
The 1500 is most likely a 18cc engine. It will work as a gas/glow conversion. I think that it is a bit over weight with mag ignition. It isn't good enough to spend money for electronic ignition. Hrer is a link for the FL-1500 below.

Thanks, but I don't think that is the motor. The motor I have came from a trimmer. I did do a parts check on the one you suggest and there were no matches. I do believe it is a 28 cc motor based on the numbered parts. Thanks again.

Hi Rev,
Without a picture, I was going on what you said about it being a 1500. It is a Weedeater XR series engine. I had a small one, many years ago. I replaced it later with a XT-90 of 30cc. Both series have reed valves. The XR on the bottom and the XT in the rear. The flywheel threads are most likey 5/16x24. You will have to enlarge the ports and trim much metal from the case to have usable engine. I would recomend going to a small engine repair shop and picking a good used Homelite or Ryobi for $5 or free. A picture is worh ten thousand words. good luck.

What a guy Dave: thanks for the heads up. I keep forgetting that I have this digital camera. It is nice to have the right tool for the job at hand, LOL :)
