Long shaft solution?
1 Attachment(s)
Hello everyone,
I came across this picture on ebay and wondered about the best way to do this. It would be a great engine for a P39 or P63 King Cobra. Has anyone seen a solution like this before? Dave |
RE: Long shaft solution?
Me..I made something similar about 12 years ago for a P39 racer using a 150 four stroke..Mine was made from solid aluminum, not bolted together...still have the piece around her somethere...Way too heavy, even though it was milled out on the sides and bottom...:D
There's another way.. I made a 10" long extension for a 3W 70 twin to be used in a Nemesis F1 scale racer.. Threaded an aluminum tube to the front of the crankcase, made a long shaft that screwed onto the crank, put a bearing in the end of the tube..Worked fine, the engine wasn't quite strong enough to win.... |
RE: Long shaft solution?
Ralph,
The tube idea sounds like a good solution. I still think that the fusalage would nedd to be nice and stiff for support. |
RE: Long shaft solution?
Looks like it could be good for any skinny pointy nosed airplane. You know, a flying version of Lindsey Lohan. I hadn't yet run across an engine with a shaft that long before. What is it out of?

RE: Long shaft solution?
Matt,
I think that it was custom made for a P39 Aircobra. Not sure how well it worked. Thought that it might cause activity int he forum. Things have been slow latley. Dave |
RE: Long shaft solution?
Ill have to keep my cheepo digital camera with me.Theres a guy at my field that showed up last month with a warbird, not sure what it was because it was only the fuse but he had a quadra 35 in the cockpit and a long hub that went to a bearing on the firewall. No support in the middle.Had one of those little squared like mufflers from jtec with the hose running out the bottom.
