Twin Conversion engines
 

Has anyone done a conversion on a twin engine. If so, where can you get a twin cylinder chainsaw engine at? If you can please post pics. Thanks[sm=50_50.gif]

Here is a link to my post for an Echo CST-610 twin I converted. Made between 1981 and 1984 if I remember correctly. They are pretty hard to find. The ones I have were basket cases meaning they were not running. But hey all we need is the short block anyway. I do have one running saw but it will not be converted. Only "issues" with them is the carb ends up on top of the engine. Makes for challenges with cowling unless you design or adapt a muffler to work. Other cosmetic issue is one plug points up and one down. The carb is on an angle in the saw but you can make a plate to mount it upright.

Tim Thanks for the response. I looked at your pics of the twin. It looks great. For the problem you have with the carb. It looks like you could turn the engine upside down and make a custom muffler. Have you tried running it with Gas/Glow conversion? You may want to give it a try. It will be more powerful and you lose allot of weight. Plus, you won't have the spark plugs sticking out there. I would be very interested in the performance of this engine!

Haven't thought about converting to glow. May be more power but the reason I went to gas was bigger planes and no glow mess to deal with. I am looking at the muffler issue and will be working on that in the future. The way it is now you need a round cowl plane to make it work. Only way I can see to make it work in an Extra or similar would be to put a snorkel style hood scoop on the cowl like a drag car. Might look cool but isn't too practical.

heres a pic of mine im still working on.since this pic i got rid of the ignition and im going to go glow/gas mix maybe or just gas,still deciding.the mufflers came off of a bme 102.i picked mine up from a resale shop running for $200 dollars.i looked for a year before i spotted this one.i traded or sold all the parts i didnt need afterwards so i basiclly broke even.

Buck that looks good also! If you use the gas/glow mix, tell us how it turns out. I will be looking for a twin in the near future just to experiment with. I am currently using gas/Glow fuel combo a Stihl 26 cc on a Giles 202 1/4 scale works great. I really appreciate your response...

Tim that would look really cool. With a hood scoop.:D Have any of you test run the engine with a prop yet. If so. What was the results?

i talked to a person from here in the forums but i dont remember who.he has one done and running on gas.he said it runs equal to a G-62 but it has a little more power and a lot smother being a twin but he said its a great runner,thats why i converted one.D&B engines sells one for about $900.00 without mufflers so i think mine is well worth it for how much i have into it.ill send you a PM.

Might have been me, I converted the first one somewhere around 1990...Miles Reed was at Toledo around the same with Kenny of D&B with the prototypes of his D&B twin made using the Echo parts with his own machined case...His uses the same cylinder on both sides so both spark plugs are at the same angle....Time flies [:o]
Here's the D&B..I think the carb is an SDC80, the reed was/is a 4 petal from Homelite..

well i least i know where ive seen my mufflers before.probably was you since ive asked you quite a few questions in the last 2 or 3 yrs.i have another question about one of your conversions i own but ill email ya.
