how heavy are the wacker engine mufflers for the ryobis?
 

hey, i was jus wondering what the weight of these mufflers are compared to stock? Ive got my ryobi down to only 3.5lbs and was looking to "shed" another 1/4 pound, or close to 1/2 pound....if possible.
the reason i want to do this is: i was looking into building the Balsa USA EAA bipe. they state that the planes all up weight should be 8 lbs. i know that this motor is "too much" in the weight department, but the kit is sized for a 120 fourstroke which weighs about 2 lbs. i figure if i can get my motor as close to 3 lbs as possible, i can "shed" weight elsewhere in the plane.
I originally wanted to build a tigermoth, but the kits are too expensive and i think that something a little more simple and straight forward would be best for this winter, due to lack of a good shop/workspace.
any input would be greatly appreciated

Andrew,
The typical pitts aluminum muffler weighs about 4 oz. I think that a Ryobi may be a little for the EAA bipe. You should shorten the nose to help balancing.

i figured i would have to do that. i previously had this ryobi in a kadet senoir (iknow....iknow) i had to heavily modify this plane, but it was sweet. the reason why this engine is free is b/c i came in hot on landing (i had to, b/c this thing was almost double the reccommended weight) and well, it bounced once (the strip i fly from is terrible for bumps and ruts) and then did a cartwheel at a very high speed. it was funny as hell, b/c all that was damaged was the plane and my prop. (i got the plane for free)
i think i can manage this EAA bipe, but i dont want it to be a pig, like the senior was.
