Shim question
 

I have this Echo 30cc engine. It has needle bearings I think. I have to split the case but the bolts are stuck. May have to heat area where threads live. I wonder if spacer washers(shims) could be placed so end play can be reduced. It looks like about a .080 thick thrust washer would fit in easy. How about it RCIG1? Or any oher inteligent beings! Ha! You know engines GuRu,s.:D

I don't know Capn.... I have a 30cc Echo that is so old it had points, and it still had ball bearings. Heat those bolts up and get 'er apart and see what you've got first...

av8tor: Thanks for the reply. If it has ball bearings...they must be very bad. End play may is .060+ . Also bearings have side play of maybe .020 or 20/1000 . The rest of engine looks good. Compression is very good. I will take it apart this eve and see.[:-]

if you do I would put the shim on the back side of the crank, that way the crank is not turning on the shim as the prop pull's on the crank (in fact it would be best to have the shim behind the rear bearing),, I would leave a good .015" or .020" of back-lash, there is a reason why they leave so much back-lash..
