Help - ECHO 50cc

I would like to try and convert one of these. I need some help from some people in the know. First off I'm doing this for a friend in the club to see if I can save him some money. What is the best way to convert one of these? Buy a new chainsaw? Buy a shortblock? Where is the best place to buy these? I was wanting to use a C & H Ignition. Would it be cheaper to do this, or just buy a Brillelli 50cc Echo conversion? What all is done in the conversion? Any port timing changes, carb. size, or any other mods from stock? What is the process for the prop-hub adaptor for this engine? I will probably use a Brillelli muffler, or is there one better than this? I have all tools to make all the parts. Just want to know if it is worth the trouble. Thank you for all of your help!

If you have the tools to do it, then go for it. You can get a short block from any Echo supplier. I use the CS-510 but the new CS-520 is what is being used now. The 510 was just under 50cc and the 520 is just over 50cc. CARB rules in California caused Echo to do this. I have paid $169.00 for the short block. I use a WT-201 carb but anything that size would work. I also use CH ignitions with the Bosch cap.

THanks for your help! So you do not have to do any port changes at all? They are good to go stock. What muffler have you found works best? He is not for sure what plane he has and I have not seen it. He said it is 18 plus pounds with a Qadra 41 and a bunch of lead on the tail. He got it at a swap meet. So the total cost of the motor would be around $420.00 ? OR would you use a different motor to start with. Again thanks for all the help !!

Short block, $169....C&H syncro spark ignition, about $90....Carb, about $40...Looks like about $300 since you make the hub....There are many mufflers, cost depends on how quiet you want to be.[8D]

The motors are fine stock and should weigh about 3 pounds without muffler or ignition gear. All I have ever done on these is make prop hubs, timing rings, and carb adapters. On the 50 that I run I use a J&A Peace Keeper Pitts muffler. On my sons 44 there is a simple side dump exhaust I got from Don's Hobby Shop. Looks like a BME muffler. I have Scotts mufflers on some of my smaller conversions and I like them a lot. Depending on the plane 18 pounds like a lot of weight for the 41. My Wildhare Extra weighs 17-1/2 with the 50 and my sons Hangar 9 Extra weighs about 13 pounds with the 44. FWIW the 510 and the 520 short blocks both list for $190.00 and the 44 is $186.00. You can find give away prices on Echo saws at Home Depot at times. Customer returns etc. I have bought them for under a hundred dollars in the past. Check the thread on Brillelli 50cc that is going on here now. Lots of interesting toughts there.

Hey Ralph where did you see that price for short blocks? SEPW is where I got mine from.

Your post # 2 :D
I thought about making some cheaper Echo 50s just to give some of the other people a hard time ;)
My labor cost is $0 in my own shop, I get carbs and ignitions at reduced rates....
Not enough time, there are Ebay G62s here waiting in line :D

Ahhh. That is what I paid for the last few I did. Looked at SEPW today and saw the price increase and posted it here. Not that 31 bucks will hurt but... I suppose if you bought enough of them you could get that down again.
