RE: which is better?

It's close I would say, but I favor the Homelite. Besides, it responds better to modifications if you care to do so later.

What do you guys think??

My Homelite weed trimmer 25s turned a Mejzlik 18-6 at 8400...Easier to mount, a plate across the back instead of a long mount or standoffs....Been so long ago I forgot what all was done, but not much....Made 2, both ran the same...Cost $50 from the Cummings Traveling Tool Show...Boith had EI, but the stock mag should run the same, just heavier...

But aren't Homelites heavier than Ryobis?

RE: which is better?

I honestly have never weighed them in similar configurations, but I really don't think so...

If I remember correctly, my Homelites come out around 2 lbs. 12 oz. more or less, including the mount, muffler, and prop hub. I'm pretty sure a Ryobi with mount would weigh more.

RE: which is better?

i just weighed my brand new ryobi twin ring with the stock ign, gutted muffler, and with the aluminum box mount.4lbs-6oz RTF.i dont have a homy to weigh but as i remember i think my 30cc homy weighed about 3.5 lbs.

RE: which is better?

Yeah, the Ryobi is heavy. I even took the mag off and ran a couple on EI. Don't make much difference. It helps, but the engine still weighs 4lbs + with EI and an aluminum muffler.

I've modified a couple Ryobi 31cc engines. They respond well to mods. Grind a bit here, smooth a bit there. Add a bigger carb and a good set of rings. Zoom Zoom!! :D Just prop them for less than 8000RPM. They don't last but a couple hours if you twist them up around 9000RPM. We blew one to kibbles and bits last season because we didn't put enough prop on it and ran it at 8800RPM on the bench. She blew up after about 2hrs run time. It was SPECTACULAR!! [sm=lol.gif]

RE: which is better?

Ok, went back and found the numbers I had on weights. My Homelite weighs 3 lbs. ready to fly with electronic ignition. My Kioritz (Echo) 23.6cc engines come out at 2 lbs. 9 oz. in the same trim. I don't have numbers for my Ryobi, but I'm sure it's a good bit heavier.

Interesting side note: My (older style) Homelite 30 actually weighs an oz. or so less than the almost identical 25cc Homey.

RE: which is better?

thats the reason i sold my 25cc homy and stuck with the 30cc.1-2 ozs lighter and more power.mine has the 2 rings i believe.my sons BUSA DVIII weighs 14.25 lbs dry RTF,with the 30cc,84ws,cloth covering,2-1/4 scale servos and 3-standards.also with the 6-3/4 williams bros ww1 scale wheels.i painted the lozenge pattern with rattle cans.will post a pic later.

The reason the weight is less on the 30cc verses the 25cc...the bore is bigger!!!! Capt,n

RE: which is better?

so power to weight , puts the homelight 25even with or slightly ahead of the ryobi?

RE: which is better?

From what I recall reading the homey has the Ryobi beat or at least matched in power as well. I may be wrong though. The Ryobi is limited to 8000 rpm's or it will self destruct. Homey's can turn upwards of 12000 or so. They do it in boats.

RE: which is better?

Power, and power to weight is better with the Homelite 25cc. If you haven't bought anything yet, try to find a Homelite 30cc. It is better yet.
