Yard Machine Engine
 

Does anyone know who makes the Yard Machine line trimmer? Is it made by someone else? I have a 28cc 2cyc enging that runs great. I would like to make a plane from scratch to fit this engine. Are there any parts, i.e. carbs, exaust, ingnition systems for the yard machine line? Any help would be great. I just got into RC planes one month ago, and I HAVE JUMP IN WITH BOTH FEET. know it's all about thinking outside the box, and seeing how far I can go.

couple of questions for you. Are you an experienced builder? A successful scratch build requires a certain amount of experience and a lot of work and is usually more costly than a kit or ARF. Of course a successful scratch build is a very rewarding experience and RCU forums are a great place to get some guidance and encouragement.

2) Find a mentor

3) Get a part time JOB.

Number 3 is optional but will help.

Other than the Four Planes I have built and flew this month no, I have no experience. I do have a good mind though. I will be looking for information on design online. As for the second job, I don't think I'll need it. I doing pretty well in that department. I have a great 30X45 shop with most every tool, and alot of work beach space. I am just ready to dig in. I'm sure there will be alot of trial and error, but my hobby store guy turned me to this site, So, I'm sure there is alot of help here. Thanks.

I envy you that shop. Mines half that size but fairly well tooled up. You will find a lot of help and guidance on here and plenty of guys that are glad to answer questions and point you in the right direction. Try rccorner.org for a few tips.

As to your 28cc Yard Machine engine, it is most likely a Ryobi design. Parts for these are readily availible. Have a look at wackerengines.com or look up jag engines. These motors are a good conversion and the same basic design is found in a 28 and 31 cc models

If you already have the engine go for it. If not, I wouldn't buy a yard machines for conversion. There is no needle adjustment for the high speed on the carb. If you were going to get a larger carb for it anyway, then you should be alright.
