Which Car engine on plane!
Hey guys im working on an rc ultralight, the engine i am using is going to be in a pusher setup. I would like it to also have a recoil starter. So I have decided to use an rc car engine for power and lightweight heatsink head. I was wondering if anyone had any experience in this. I dont know what props I can use with a .21 size engine. And what rpms I have to look for, temp. etc... spacers can be machined to accomodate the prop. So anyone with suggestions. would def be appreciated.

way too heavy and underpowered for airplanes. buy a cheap Magnum, you'll be happier

Hey Mike,
It could work...we don't know what size the bird is that you are creating...it would only be overweight and underpowered if the size was out of the question. I ran these motors on RC airboats for the same reason you want to...pull start, heat sink head, and pusher configuration. They work fine. Off the top of my head I cannot recall the best prop sizes, I can tell you APC will probably have the most efficient prop...give them a call. http://www.apcprop.com/cgi-bin/store...p=Pusher&xm=on |

Machine a barrel nut for the prop
This is what the nut will look like. It will have a washer over it and will extend inside the propeller hub. http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXWX66&P=7 In the APC link above, they only have a 7-6 or a 9-6 prop. An 8-6 would be more like it? This is the only 8-6 pusher I could find and its a wood Zinger http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXLH06&P=7 |
