GX35

Hey all,

I got my GX35 back from Carr Precision on Monday and I've got a few questions,if you ever need machine work done on your gasser Dave's the man to see, well anyway I stripped all the un-needed plastic parts and ground all the aluminum I could off.It started to look like a regular r/c engine,so I weighed it,and it came in at 5.5 lbs.Not to bad when you consider out of the box it weighed almost 7.5 lbs.My question is does anybody know of an aftermarket pipe or muffler that will fit this engine?I think the stock muffler weighs a half pound by itself!!Also is there a carb that will fit this engine that has some adjustment? Now the good stuff after putting the engine back together I tried to start it by hand,no luck,so I got my starter out and it started right up ran it for about one hour on a half tank of gas changing engine speed up and down all the while. After shutting the engine down I took it back into the shop and checked it over to make sure nothing had come loose, and nothing did. While checking it over I noticed a sheet of paper that Dave Carr had sent with the engine of some do's and don'ts one of the items on the list was to set the mag gap with a buisness card,I had set it with the tag that came with the engine reminding you to add oil it's about twice as thick as a business card.Well today I tried to start it up by hand flipping it again and it started right up.
Well sorry to ramble on like this, but I'm like a kid with a new toy!

Thanks in advance Jim Club Saito#409

Heck, it's a four stroke. I have a GX 31, and whenever I get around to using it, I'm going to run it with a straight pipe. Shouldn't be very loud.

That, (no muffler), and losing the magneto and going to electronic ignition would lose about 1.5 lbs.

av8tor1977,

I know I could loose some more weight by losing the mag,but I can't afford the ei right now,I bought a Bridi Big Bee kit so my hobby funds are just about dried up.My flywheel has been lightened already,so I would'nt save that much weight there.I guess I'll just have to make my own pipe? Thanks for the reply though.Do you know of any aftermarket parts for these small Honda engines?I tried looking on the gopednation web site and found nothing.

Thanks Jim Club Saito#409

I really haven't heard of any aftermarket parts. The boat guys are pretty innovative though, and I think some of them have fooled around with these Hondas. You might look into that.
