Walbro initial settings?
I just put a new Walbro carb on a Quadra 35 but I dont know what the initial settings for the needles should be. Can anyone tell me? I saw a thread that said to open both to 2 turns then adjust the high end. After high end is adjusted, adjust the low until it looses transistion then open slightly. Does this sound right?
Thanks Jim |
RE: Walbro initial settings?
That will work. Two turns is likely to be pretty rich, but it should start and run so you can begin tuning. Keep in mind that with these carbs, adjusting one needle will affect the other. So you have to go back and forth checking the high speed running mixture, the low, the transition, etc. several times before you can consider it dialed in. Once set though, you will probably never have to change them as they don't need adjustment for normal weather changes, etc. like glow engines often do.

RE: Walbro initial settings?
2L/2H also is good and probably better. This will certainly be very rich, but will start well and get the engine running for tuning.
There are so many different walbro carbs with different needle threads/tapers/diameters that in some carbs 2 turns is not a whole lot. Initially, it is better to err on the rich side. Leaning out the L-needle, and adjusting the throttle stop for stable high idle is a quick process. This provides a safe platform from which to start the first tuning stages. I will adjust my initial post to this. |
