Rcexl Ignition
I bought a Rcexl ignition on e-bay and the kit didn't have the magnet with it.I have e-mailed them but they will not send one so I need to get one.
What size is the magnet and where can you get them. Also the unit is for a 10mm plug and my McCulloch is 14mm what sort of plug can I use with the A-01 and can I just change the boot on the end of the HT lead. I am dissapointed at the support you get at Rcexl especially refusing to supply the magnet for the pick-up. I don't want to try anything incase I damage the pickup. The instructions say 28 degrees TDC which I assume means 28 degrees BTDC. Any help appreciated |
RE: Rcexl Ignition
You can pick up small rare earth magnets that will work fine from Radio Shack. I think they are 1/8". Yes it means 28 degs. BTDC. Check the polarity needed for the magnet before mounting it. It matters which pole of the magnet faces the pickup. I connected my ignition system up, put a spark plug into the lead and then passed the magnet by the sensor until I found the correct pole to face the sensor. I marked that side with a sharpie so I could tell when it came time to mount it. The next time you need an EI call and talk to Bill or Terry at CH ignitions. They sell a version of the RCEXCEL made for CH and are some of the nicest folks you will ever deal with.

RE: Rcexl Ignition
as for the 10mm spark plug, I ran into the same issue, I took a used car spark plug that's 14mm and tapered ( GM 350 plug was readily available), chucked it in the lathe, cut off the crimp holding the porcelin in, cut off the hex part of the plug, flipped it around and parted all but about 3 threads off, drilled and tapped the center for 10x1.5 or whatever the plug is, flipped the remainder around and parted off just past the sealing taper and faced it, should work just fine.
if you want, I could make another and I'll give it to you for the cost of shipping... or just make one, I grabbed 7 more donor plugs from work to make more if you need instructions, try this, it's what I found online after a quick search |
RE: Rcexl Ignition
Its not much help for you, but CH carries all that you need. 14 to 10mm adapters or RCXL plug cap kits.
We sell the ignitions with the plug cap you want. 10mm or 5/8 hex 14mm or 3/4 hex 14mm.... They are all the same $$$ |
RE: Rcexl Ignition
Ch is the way to go. on stuf like that. I went to e-bay and picked up one and by the time it was all over it would have been so much beter to just go with CH. I know you got it now but I am just putting in my .02c werth.

RE: Rcexl Ignition
Thanks for the help and advice.
Good of you to offer to make the adapter for me "rangerfredbob" I do the same for guys in my club and find myself time poor. I will have a go myself when I get a M10 x 1 tap or try to find if there is an equivelent plug to the CM-6 in 14 mm and change the cap. I will have a look at CH site as it is frustrating sending e-mails to China in both english and chinese and all they keep saying is 'the magnet is already installed in the pick-up.' |
