Echo Twins?
 

What older echos were twins such as the 610EVL? I was told an old repair shop about 30 miles from me has a bunch of older echo chainsaws laying around he wants to get rid of and before I go and look I would like to know what I am looking for or what to ask for.

The CS-610 was the only twin they made. They were also badged John Deere and one other brand as I recall. Echo also made a twin air compressor, I can't recall the model but I do have the manual for it. If you think finding one of the saws is hard try finding one of the compressors. I had one and it was a very easy conversion. Mounts like a weedeater and cleaner looking than the converted saw.

Well Tim, is the 610 a good conversion? Is it worth the time, effort or money? How hard a conversion is it?

Flaminheli, The 610 is a good conversion. I think any decent engine can be converted. That being said it all depends on your skill set and the machinery available to you. I am lucky in that I have a Bridgeport mill, Clausing lathe and drill press at home so for me it is easy. They all take effort and thought but at different degrees depending on the engine. Bottom line is you can save half or more over buying a "branded" engine. I once bought a case of Echo 23.6cc short blocks for ten bucks each brand new. A new G26 is over $300.00 and doesn't include the CH ignition I use. I had less than $150.00 in a complete engine on EI. The other benefit is that of the looks on some of the guys faces at the field when you run as good or better than their high dollar engines with your scrap.
