Featherlight 18cc
Looks like I have a Featherlight 18cc motor according to the id plate on the motor. It also has a muffler held on with springs. Wondering if anyone has modified the carburator location so that it does not extend so far to the side of the motor. I have a Sig 1/4 scale and the cowl is just wide enough for a comforatble fit with a 4 stroke. If the carb on the gaser could be relocated then the entire motor would fit inside the cowl if a special muffler were built.
Ideas? Thanks:D |
RE: Featherlight 18cc
You could cut down the manifold length, but the fact is I would doubt you'll be happy with the 18 in a 1/4 scale Sig cub. The 18 will not preform much better the a 2 stroke .60 unless your willing to do some pretty extensive mods to it. The smallest conversion engine I'd look at would be a 21CC echo for that airframe.

I agree about the 18cc.
If the weight is not a problem, use a Ryobi. Rear intake, rear exhaust.... it should all fit in the cowl. AV8TOR |
RE: Featherlight 18cc
Thanks. The only problem is the plane is built and I just do not have enough length.[:@]

RE: Featherlight 18cc
I have the same plane with a 25cc Homey, It will fit, but you should move the firewall back an inch or 2, and the carb will stick out the side. With careful trimming you can make the flywheel hidden by trimming into the fake valve covers.

RE: Featherlight 18cc
If you can stand to, put a Super Cub cowl on it. Fiberglass Specialities has them. My 30cc Homey fit carb fit completely inside, without a velocity stack. Of course you will have to have the spark plug out the bottom. If you used a Wacker Engines pitts muffler it would leave the cowl pretty much un-molested. My old Cub has been around the block so many times I just let it all hang out. Forget the 18cc, 25cc-30cc is just right for a 1/4 Cub. A friend just finished a 25cc Toro and he loves it. You might take a look ant one. I think they come out lighter than a Homey, Poulan, or Ryobi.
