Homelite chain saw 33cc
 

I went in to a chain saw junk pile and found a homelite chain saw. I have no idea what the cc of this engine is. I am working on trying to find out. I do not have a pick yet. I am going to take it apart and then posting pics. It is not like the weedy I have. The spark plug is in a angel of the top of the engine. The carb is a 11mm. (it has a 28 in the inlet of the carb.)

The saw is not that beg but I think this has to be more then a 25cc.

I will post a pic on it later but if there is any way of knowing what the cc is on this or what I have to look for let me know

There should be a sticker located on the housing that gives the cc information as well as the recommened gas/oil ratio. Otherwise post some pictures of the bare engine, most of these guys can pick out the engine from that.

Well it is a 33cc homelite. It looks as if it will be a good one to convert. I had a very hard time getiting the cluch of. I know that I was not going to use that part of the crank so I just cut it off. It seems to work. The compertion is low so I will have to get a new ring for it but I need to see if it will be a good engine before I put any money in it.

Has any one ran this engine? If so What is a good way to mount the engine.

There are several Homelite 33cc engines. The best one of RC use (IMHO) is the side mount carb, exhaust. I have three of those, and one of the rear mount exhaust. I made my engine mounts from 1/4 aluminium plate and bolt them to the engine housing bolts (there are four on the bottom of the engine). I used aluminium "T" material to make the motor mounts for the firewall. It would be difficult for me to get pictures of this right now...there are several on this site though. Do a search for Homelite 33cc and you should find them.

This one is the side mount carb and exhaust. Does this engine have good power and werth doing the work to? I have some homelite 25cc that I did and I am able to make them lite and the power that I get out of it is ok. I just would like to know if this engine will have more power then the 25cc

What does (IMHO) meen? lol I see it a lot and just have not asked lol

I will be putting CH ie on it. that is if I can get good power out of it..

The Homelite 33 is a good engine, and will definitely outperform the 25cc if it is in good condition.

IMHO means "In my humble opinion."

How about the homelite 33 from a string trimmer?

A friend of mine came up with one of these long shaft motors that is like new.
The return on the starter hangs up.

I see where wacker has a kit for these, but I was wondering about the performance.

Hey Ralph, from the string trimmers that I have seen (33cc, 31cc etc) they are not as powerful as the chainsaw variety.

KI8FR, the 33cc chainsaw motor is a powerhouse. You will be very happy with it if you can repair it to stock. A few friends have Zenoah G38's I would stack one of my 33cc against them any day. (IMHO, lol)

I know that chainsaws are the most highly tunes of the small engines.
I was just wondering how good the string trimmer engine is.

Anyone know what prop works well with the 33cc stringtrimmer?

Well that is good news. As for it having more power then a Zenoah 38 I beleave it. I have a Zenoeh 38 and my quadra 35 has a lot more power then that 38. Im not saying tht Zenoah has bad engines. but I can see why Zenoah stoped making that 38.

I have a lot of weedys. and you can get some good power out of then and you can get the weaht down with some grinding. I have a homelite 25cc that will tern a 16x8 at 8400 rpms with very little mods. If I put a ring in it and cut out the bar in the exhost port I know I can get more rpms out of it. I just have not done that yet. I have the ring but I just do not fell like taking the engine off the plane to do it lol

I'm running an 18-8 Master Airscrew on my 33cc chain saw conversion. It's got all sorts of power. Pulls an 18-1/2lb brick around the sky with little effort. If I can find my digi camera I'll take a pick and post it.

No war started lol. But as far as I know Zenoah still makes the G38 and if it's tuned correctly and not worn out it can be a stump puller too. However I'd say the 33cc Homelite is on par with a good running G38. Well mine is anyways.

G38's are good motors, but I pay 45.00 or so for a working Homelite at swap meets. I will take the 33cc Homelite anyday.

On my Ryobi 25cc I use a 16x8 or 18x6, I do not remember the performance I get out of them but I am pulling around a 18lb 1/4 scale Aeronca Champ very well. (Bud Nosen kit)
My 33cc Chainsaw planes (both 1/4 scale Balsa USA kits, Fokker DVII and Sopwith Pup) fly like rockets with an 18x10 and 18x8 respectively.

The was I see it is that a cood conversion engine takes some time to convert and to dile in. but it is fun. gradiafying when it works. I have payed much in $$$ for a conversion I did. I have more BIG planes now then I have ever had before cuz of the conversions.

It is the only way to go. (IMHO) LOL thanks av8tor for that info. It was needed lol

I just ordered my rings from Frank. 14 bucks. New bearings and seals, 21 bucks. Chainsaw free. Glow plug adapter for gas/glow 9 buck. Satisfaction of running a conversion gas/glow engine. Priceless

I couldn't have said it better myself Paul. There are guys out there that think if you didn't pay $500.00 for an engine, that you don't have a good engine. Their loss...

That is good idea. Take a plane that looks like crap and have a pic with my wife and show it off. Then every one would see it and say NICE lol..

Yep, I'm a lucky guy!!

Sorry guys, it is not a "converted" plane in the pic. (Yes, there IS an airplane in the pic.) However, that plane later got it's nose shortened about 1.5", and now sports a Homelite 25cc.

I cut the back of the crank off were the werm gear was that ran the oiler for the chain. I had to cuz I was not able to get the cluch off. It was on there and it was not going to come off. I put a lot of heat on it. I was to the point were it was going to hurt the crank. I hope this will not give me a prob down the road.

Still working on a good plan to mount the engine. Cant seem to find good pics in a serch.
