SuperTigre 90 on Gasoline
I just ran my ST 90 on Gasoline/Spark ignition for the first time today. The stock carb. works great with NO mods and it's turning a 14X6 MA K-Series prop 10,500 which is only 200 rpm's shy of what it turned on glow fuel. I am a bit confused why it didn't lose any more power. My little motor, the G51 lost about 500 rpm's and I expected about the same from the 90. This motor does not have the needle bearings in the rod and I have to run it at the same 16:1 ratio that I use in the G51. I have another one that I have put the needle bearings in the rod but still have some more work to do before it is ready to run. Also, i made an adapter to put a Walbro carb on it but decided to try the stock carb first and I am glad I did as it seems to run very good with it. I am running the timing at 28 deg. just like the G51. It idles very smooth and steady at 2000 rpm's with absolutely no hint of wanting to die and the transition is excellent even after prolonged idling.

RE: SuperTigre 90 on Gasoline
I have a Super Tiger .90 that Keith at BME converted to roller bearings for me. I run it on Gas/Glow with a Walbro carb, and it's a great engine!!

Yep, I was real sad to see Keith give it up. I talked to him about a G90 Gas right before he dropped out and I would still like to get one if they go back into production.

He is a really nice guy, and I hope things work out for him.

Yep he hated to give up his baby.
There seems to be better money in cell towers than RC engines. |
RE: SuperTigre 90 on Gasoline
That is great news Jezmo. Looking forward to more reports on how it holds up and how it flies. I have one that I would like to put in a TF FW190 kit and run it on gas. When and if I get the XYZ replacement ignition I ordered from Hobby City and it turns out to be a reliable ignition, converting to gas on glow might turn into a very econimical alternative. I have since found out the XYZ has a US dealer where the ignition can be ordered for $55.00 including the hall sensor. Like I said, if it works it will be a good deal.
I would also like to see some pictures of your set up if you can get them. Jim |
