Converting a Ryobi 31cc

I'm thinking of converting a Ryobi 31cc and have a few questions. Has anyone used the electronic conversion kit from CH Ignitions? Any problems with the conversion kit? How does the engine run without the flywheel being that it is run with and electronic ignition? What carb. would be the best to use? I have a Zama C1Q-M33D which is a 12.5mm carb. Would this carb work alright for this? I read somewhere that a guy used the same carb. on this engine and said his worked great. Is there anything I should look out for? I'm thinking about modifying the existing muffler by putting a tube in for the muffler outlet. Anything that can be added would be much appreciated.

There is so much on this conversion on this web site. Do a search on Ryobi conversions and see what you find. I use a Walbro WT644 (12.75mm) with a CH ignition and it is a very strong engine and flip starts pretty easy.

I am using an XYZ ignition on my Ryobi. See the thread about Carb too big. It runs well on this ignition for less than half the price of the CH ignition. You can get a conversion kit from wackerengines.com and the ignition from southeastrcengines.com and have half the money in it.

I looked at wackerengines and didn't see any conversion for electronic ignition. I already have an S/S ignition(Roy Sholl) on hand. All that is wrong is the hall effect went bad. I called CH ign. and found out they carry the conversion kit minus the ignition system but are out of stock on them. Can you give the link for the EI conversion parts? All I saw are conversion to be used with the flywheel which I don't want. What kind of thrust numbers are possible? If this conversion works OK, I might want to use it on a 26cc Edge.

You are correct. Wackerengines only carries the "hard parts" for the conversion. I bought an entire ignition system from Southeastrcengines.com. It is the replacement unit for the XYZ engine. The ignition unit and the sensor are purchased separately. When I ordered mine, I got two sensors just in case I needed a spare. I made my own spacer with magnet for the sensor by drilling out the center of the existing flywheel. Their igntions are very economical and seem to work really well. A lot cheaper than CH. If all you need is the sensor, you may can get one from them. At less than $8.oo for the sensor, it would seem to me to be worth a try.
