38cc Homelite Chainsaw engine question
 

I bought a homelite engine and conversion parts from a guy who gave up the project. I put it all together and added a big bore Walbro carb, the results are fantastic! This thing turns an 18x8 prop 8500rpm! Idles like a dream and snappy transition to boot. It shames a G38.

Now I am curious about which Homelite chainsaws have the 38cc engine. Since I bought the engine already pulled out of the saw, I have no idea. I thought about contacting Wacker engines, they sell a bunch of parts to convert these, however, his site shows he is not in business due to surgery for the summer.

Looks nice. Is the viabration level low? Also....could you please tell us what # of carb you used and maybe show the engine from a differant angle so I could see the engine mount hook-up better? Thanks Capt,n

The carb is a Walbro Wa-82 with a 12.5mm Venturi. I'd say Vibration is average. Heres a shot of the mount pattern and the top of the engine. Also running on the test stand. Any idea what Model Homelite this came out of? I'd like to get another and make my own parts. I just got a heck of a deal with the project motor the guy gave up on.

HAS ANYBODY FLOWN CHAINSAW LONG TERM?? I KNOW THEY HAVE GREAT HP/WT BUT I'VE HAD A FEW APART AND NONE HAD WHAT LOOKED LIKE GOOD THRUST BEARINGS (LIKE TRIMMER MOTORS, BY THE GRACE OF GOLLY, LARGE BALL BEARING). Most big RC gas engines are derived from Chainsaw engines, at least until recently. All the Zenoahs are derived from trimmer and chainsaw engines, as was the Quadra 35-52 series. There are a few chainsaw engines that have the wrong bearings for our application, I just forget which.
