First conversion with plane
1 Attachment(s)
I purchase a Giant Big stick with the idea of using it for testing different conversions. I mounted a Homelite 30cc for the first round. Plane flys really stable and engine performs great, plenty of power.
My next two engines will be a Sthl 26cc, Mac 28cc then maybe a Jonsered 40cc. It will be tough to pull the homy off-just to much fun. |
RE: First conversion with plane
That looks great. Im thinking of doing the same for what is to be my first conversion soon, a 21.2cc Echo.
Do you think a 21.2cc Echo (Electronic Ignition converted with 8-11mm Carb) could pull this airframe well? |
RE: First conversion with plane
I don't think so, Not well anyway, it would get it off the ground and fly but not with any power. The plane weighs 14lbs and was designed for 26 to 35cc. I'm going to try it just for fun. Most guys use the Hanger 9 120 Ultra lite stick.

Yeah, the 21cc would fly the plane, but you would be wishing for more power. The 21 would do a little better on the slightly smaller, lighter Ultra Lite Stick 120 from Hangar 9.
I really like my Giant Stik. Check it out.... "Homemade" 48cc twin. AV8TOR |
RE: First conversion with plane
That twin is so cool, did you add flaps to yours? I am having a ball landing this plane, it lands on two wheels, tail up and gently sits down. Control on approach is fantastic.
What would the cc's be on a twin like that? I bet power/clime rate is an afterthought. |
RE: First conversion with plane
Thanks for the reply guys. Do you think a Fourstar 120 do well with the 21.2cc EI conversion? Its 10lbs and 1000sq.in.

RE: First conversion with plane
Yes i do, although i have not done it? but 9 to 10lbs should be good. Check the arf and gas engine forums-i've seen this done before and watched some cool you tube video. I have been thinking of doing it on a 4*60, cutting the firewall back. It is a tail heavy plane anyway and a 21cc with a 15x8 prop would really rock that plane.

RE: First conversion with plane
Yep, a Four Star should be really good with that engine.
The twin I made is 48cc. Yeah, it gets up and rocks the Giant Stik for sure. I had flaps on mine at first, but I wanted more aileron authority so I took out the flap servos and glued the flaps to the ailerons to increase their area. I like it better that way. It still will land really slow and gentle. AV8TOR |
RE: First conversion with plane
Hey Bob where are these pictures taken??? in PeƱasco or San Carlos??
|
RE: First conversion with plane
Those were taken a few months ago in San Carlos.
Can't buy anything right now, but for future reference do you have the RXEL ignitions in the twin cylinder version as well, and how much? I might be doing a twin cylinder project for a friend that wants regular ignition. Take care, AV8TOR |
