My homey in yak....

1 Attachment(s)
Well,I got my homey done, running like a champ, and installed in my yak that my good buddy Bill gave me after he crashed it. This is the 4th engine in this yak. It had an O.S. 1.60(bills),then I put an underpowered GMS 1.20,then a U.S. engines 41 that flew it ok,but not close to 3d. Now I put this 54.2cc homey in it. I got it swinging a 23x8 prop at almost 6000rpm. It got tons of power, and although it doesnt get up to 7 or 8000rpms...I'm thinking it could turn a bigger prop at 6000 too,but I dont have the ground clearence for it and I hate running high pitch props. I made the hub, muffler, and stand offs. The only thing that I hate about this engine is that it used 12-24 threads on most of it(hard to find). This plane is a tank at 18lbs,but it flew like a dream with that US 41 in and this homey is only 6oz more. The homey weighs in at 5lbs 4oz WITH the hub, muffler, standoffs, ignition and all the electronics and battery.

I havent flown it yet(maybe wednesday). I'm hoping I've got the ignition and stuff far enough away from the reciever as to not cause any issues. I used a bicycle cable throttle hookup because it would be very difficult to hook the throttle up to the carb.

Any thoughts,comments,concerns,or questions?

You may want to replace metal cable to carb and use plastic ny-rod. The set-up you have may have radio glitches. Is the power switch to the ignition held in place? Make sure you do a good radio check with engine running before flying airplane. Have someone help you. Good Luck capt,n;)

Yes,the ignition switch is mounted to the right side of the fuse. You can see it in the 2nd pic at the bottom. And yeah,I kinda hated to hook up the throttle up with that cable, but I did have the US 41 hooked up with a 4-40 rod which was alittle closed to the reciever with no problems. I will however check the hobby shop tomarrow for some flexible stuff. Not sure if I can get some nyrod flexible enough though.

A nice tidy bit of engineering and installation.

I thought the black object near foam was a switch...I guess not. Capt,n

Nah,just connector retainers. I will double side foam tape them down later. ;)
