Stihl 22.5cc engine

Just got "kinda" done with this 22.5cc stihl. This is one SWEET little engine! I had it pretty much done, but didnt have another electronic ignition for it,but couldnt wait to hear it run on the stand after how great it ran in the trimmer I took it out of. So,I turned down the flywheel alittle and made a different hub to use with the flywheel. Glad I left the magneto mounts on to put my hall sensor on too. I even left on the pull starter so I could start it without the EI(how great is that, lol). This litte stihl is so far probably the smoothest running engine I own. I wish I could keep the flywheel and pull starter on and stuff, but it just weighs too much with all that stuff. But it sure will be fun to play with till I get another EI. Oh,and I used the steel stud method in my hub this time too.........and I like it better I think. And I angled the downtubes on the muffler back alittle on this muffler which I really like too....looks cooler ;)

Yep,I like this motor so much I just had to get on here and show it off, lol. Now if I just had a plane to put it in.

Have a nice day!

I'm more than a-little impressed. Did you fabricate that nice prop hub yourself? Hey, just think, if you are ever looking for work you could open a small engine repair shop.

I'm pretty sure I have the same engine. but i pulled mine out of a FS-86 trimmer and it is a 25.4cc engine. maybe its just the same case and jug for a range of engines.

I am getting 8400 on 17x6w apc on gas/glow mix

you did an awesome job trimming it up too!

Hey thanks....but I have to admit...I didnt have to do much trimming, lol. I've also realized lately that you can trim every edge and high spot and everything else, but you usually really dont save much if any weight. It usually just makes for a cruder looking engine with all the grind marks. And your stihl is a newer model or something that I've seen around. I know their very similar, but yours is bigger. Good engines huh? Part of me thinks their in cahoots with echo engines. I ran it with a 17x8 prop just to hear it run as that the closest prop I had in that range and it still revved up fairly well. While still in the trimmer though,it revved so high I didnt like to run it wide open too long. I dont like to my engine to turn too high of rpms,so I'll prop it to rev between 6 and 7 probably if it wants to. I did notice that the spark plug that was in it made alot more spark then the one I put in it. I'm gonna have to play with this some in the future. I ground the head to accept a tapered plug as I usually do so that I can keep all my EI plugs the same. So,I'm gonna have to do some rpm test with different plugs once I get the motor set up more.

This is the first I have heard about regrinding the plug seat for a tapered seat plug. I would like to do this also. Details/tools needed please? Thanks.

On many engines, you can just interchange between tapered seat and gasket plugs without machine work.

Just be aware of the plug reach
