stihl engine quits
I have been following the convrsion method to a T. I am trying to get a stihl 020 chainsaw engine on gas glow. The problem im having is that when I disconnect the lighter the engine quiits almost instantly. While on the lighter runs nicely. Could I have it still a little to rich which is putting out the plug? Ive got a 15-6 MAS prop on it and it seems very powerful cant wait to get it on my boat :D I was looking at this website http://www.scootworks.com/rdrc/gloplugs.html and was wondering if I should be using an OS #8 plug instead of the "F" plug. or do we always use a 4 stroke plug even on 2 cycles?

RE: stihl engine quits
I am using an OS A3 on my B&S 40cc, 4-stroke. Do need to keep it hot in my case. Make sure the plug sits as deep in the head as possible without hitting the piston of course.

RE: stihl engine quits
Usually if it quits soon as he power is removed from the plug then the plug is bad, are you using the 1 part glow fuel mixed with 2 parts premium gasoline?

RE: stihl engine quits
yes the fuel has been measured out and is correct. I'll do some more testing today to see if letting it warm up longer is the answer it has been cold here lately(in the negatives).

RE: stihl engine quits
Well it's cold here in london too as you are not too far away from me, we were running gas/glow engines in -12 temps the other day with no problem, all i can tell you if it works with the ignitor on but doesn't when you take it off is either there is not enough methanol in your fuel ( but you said you mixed properly ) or you have a bad plug, if this is a fresh conversion remember that there is usually lots of crud in these engines from prevoius use that can ruin a glow plug, it took me 2 plugs in my 21cc before it ran problem free.
