There's been a lot of different plugs in them over the years

Mine had a Champion RDJ7Y taper seat plug but some of them have gasket seat plugs. Actually they will interchange on the engine as I have ran both. There wasn't any rpm difference

The gasket plug would be a CJ instead of a DJ The DJ is.325 reach and the CJ is 3/8" reach

Make sure you have the resistor (R) plug or there'll be radio problems

The "Y" is a projected tip

The threads are 14mm

Yep, and ordered mine from Napa.

I went to the NAPA store and they kept trying to force one without the "R" on me.

Finally, they gave up and said that I would have to come back the next day for the "R" version.

I ordered a whole box of them being as they were having to get them from the central warehouse

I just hate it when the guy behind the parts counter thinks he knows more than I do about my own work or projects.

One time I saw a MANAGER at a parts house tell a guy he didn't want a short reach plug like the used one he had in his hand, but instead should use a long reach plug. I pulled the guy aside and told him that if he used a long reach plug in a head designed for a short reach plug, that the engine would be destroyed the moment he started it. (The pistons would have smacked the plugs.) Could have been a real unhappy ending if I hadn't overheard their conversation and intervened.

Once you know the sparkplug number you need just go to sparkplugs.com and order what you want. No counter guy to give you guff and the price is easy on the wallet. The crossreference section is helpfull also.

This Champion plug has another number that might be referred too and it is #872

The regular price for this plug is $4.10 but I've seen prices all over the place from $1.67 to close to $20 so watch yourself. The "R" plugs cost more than the regular one

The plug gap is around .020"
