Installing magnet in hub
 

I just learned something today. I was trying to press the magnet into the hub and it was a little tight, so I put some heat on it. To my surprise, after it cooled down the magnet is no longer magnetic, thus useless. I have read that epoxy or JB Weld will hold it in. I'm just a little worried since it will be spinning at 9000 RPM. So are my worries justified or will JB Weld hold it in place?

Oh yeah.... heat will easily destroy magnets. Just drill a hole slightly oversize for the magnet, insert the magnet with some JB Weld, and then center punch around the hole in four places to crimp the hole/magnet. Never had one come loose yet....

BTW, one of mine done this way regularly turns 9400 rpms on the ground; probably 10 grand in the air. No problems...

I've got a SuperTigre 51 converted to gas/spark that turns over 15,000 on the ground and it's never shed the magnet. I installed mine exactly as AV8TOR described above. Also, all of my spark equipment came from Bill and Terry at CH and the timing was set as described on the CH website. Those folks are ignition guru's.

I have used regular CA to glue my magnets in. Have two engines running this way with no problems.

I always drill the hole just big enough for the magnet to fit into and keep it level with the surface of the hub,then dremel in little holes on the inside of the big hole in an outward fashion (to keep the epoxy from falling out) and use epoxy and they'll never come out.

Good advise. I JB welded mine only without center punching the sides and after 2 tanks of testing and tuning it's still there.
