Boost bottle- work or not?

I was at the field today and a guy there showed me a boost bottle he installed on his Zenoah 20. He said it smoothed the idle out and help the mid range by making it smoother. Are these things the real deal or not? I found a web site that says they are used on piston port engines and explains how they work. Here's the link: http://wikiscootia.wikidot.com/boost-bottle
Gimmick or not? Anybody got stuff on these? It wouldn't work for me as my three gas engines are reed valve engines. It looks like they are mainly used on four wheelers and mopeds.

Had a few piston port engines and none of them have ever exibited any worse running than any of my reed valve engines. Yea, some fuel is spit back out th carb but the same happens on the reed engines. Since all my engine run extremely well I can't see much point in fixing what ain't broke.

Give it a shot and let us all know how it worked for you.

I think you will be hard pressed to be able to prove any gain one way or the other

I wonder if a wire screen made with a fine mesh would help brake up fuel droplets and possibly smooth out the RPM transistion or Idle??? Seems like something like that was used on car engines in the intake manifold! Capt,n

They used a nichrome wire screen. Seemed to help some cars but not others.

RE: Boost bottle- work or not?

Well theres a guy on ebay that sells an awful lot of them.If hes still there.Has different sizes for different CCs of engine. He says it does make a difference. This is for gopeds, scooters, and such.
I asked him about our planes and he said he wouldnt know.Theres a big difference of weight and torque between our planes and gopeds and such.
I did go to wallyworld and buy2 of those samples of spry items.
#1is an old spice body spray aluminum small bottle..075 ozs.short and stubby.
#2is a ladys perfume can-.5 ozs.long and narrow.
There about 60-70 cents a piece.
Havent tried it yet as i just put an engine in a plane. Its an Echo-24cc on a 77 inch Lazy Ace biplane.
Just about done with it and will test it out in a few weeks.
This is a new engine and has only 4 -12 oz tanks through it.
I have quite a few engines but not enough planes to experiment with.
Go check him out and his store and see what he says.
You could be the first. If it doesnt work, just plug the hole in the insulator with a screw.
