wasn't 2010 the year for the ban on 2 cycles?

I could have sworn this was the year they started to force two cycle motors out of production on garden tools and such. I am still not sure what size four stroke it will take to run a big chainsaw.

Just wondering out loud if anyone else has heard any news.

My brother in-law asked my opinion four years ago, about buying a weedie. I conned him into buying a 4 stroke weedie so I could see how they performed. I got to use it several times and determined, I didn't really like it. It was under powered and noticeably heavier than a 2 stroke weedie. He's stuck with it now.

Its 2012 you need to look out for.
Dolmar has a 50cc four stroke saw out (marketed by Makita) with hybrid case reed technology.(similar to Shindaiwa C-4) Ironicly it makes more power than their 50cc two stroke saw in the same class.Weight penalty is very small.

The thing to remember is that in this displacement class, displacement determines the power output, not two stroke or four stroke. Most makers have made a half hearted attempt at having certified 4 stroke equipment. They keep finding ways of keeping (barely squeaking by regulations) the inexpensive to produce two strokes alive mostly because the buyers are reluctant to accept new technology.

After 2012 you will see serious efforts in the four stroke area, two strokes will be illegal by 2020.To keep them popular and in the market makers will resort to catylitic converters and other schemes to keep them certified. Its a losing battle, the four strokes exceed the regulations by a fair margain already with out expensive exhaust emission devices.

Four strokes don't have the power to match two strokes in the same displacement class right now because the makers don't want them to.

All depends on what legislation can be defeated or over turned. But if nothing gets done it will look like this.

No new two stroke sales on a federal level.

Depending on state and local regs, may be illegal to operate.

Ridiculous! I wonder how many of our little 2 strokes it would take the equal the amount of emissions from 1 single 727 flight that lasted 1 hour.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Governments R bad, m'kaaaay.

No worry, I have an escape route to a parallel universe. Or did Nostradamus include those in his quatranes also? :D

You must mean like Obama's photo flight with Air Force One at low altitude above New York City! ...only that was a 747.

All that to say that I agree with you.:D

I just don't know where these "opinion" and "voter preference" polls come from. I don't believe I have ever talked to anyone personally that agrees with the government on most things...

Uh oh, here we go. And I kept promising myself I wouldn't get started....

So, how does one find out the status of this possible legislation? Or maybe I don't want to know. [:o]

Sorry, I will stand down.

As far as legislation goes, I prefer to claim ignorance.;)

Well , you know whats going to happen when politicians are basically people unsatisfied with a quiet normal life, that would rather go to a crime filled city, and party everyday on someone elses dime.

Ok this is starting to sound like an oil war or a fuel war or a bearing war, but it is a subject not needing discussion in this forum. I do RC as a hobby, partially to get away from politics and that crap. I don't need to hear about it here. Just my humble position on the subject.

Sincerely,
