Gear reduced starter insert????

Hi guys,

I have a gear reduction starter that I think I bought from Central Hobbies but I can't be sure, but if it was from them they no longer carry it. Anyway, I need a new insert for it. The o.d. of the insert is 2". Anybody know where to get one??? I would prefer silicone if there is a choice.

Thanks,
AV8TOR

Hi,

Thanks W8YE, but I found those too. Too big. I would have to figure a way to shave the o.d. down by 3/16" to use the insert. Mine is right at two inches outside diameter for the insert. Can't seem to find one...

I thought maybe you could change over to that size being as they are readily available?

The standard small ones are 1 7/16"

You can buy a nice cone from Tower for the Tower starters that also is the same size as the Sullivans

Miller also sells small rubber inserts for Sullivan starters

You probably have a Kavan starter.

About a 1/4 way down on the link below.

Thanks guys. Mine looks like the Magnum from Hobby People, but they don't list a replacement insert for it, much less the size.... [:o]

Just spent another couple of hours web searching. Cermark also has one that looks like mine, but no info on replacement inserts. I have e-mailed a couple of suppliers. Hopefully I can find one somehow.

I am actually considering greasing up the cone, filling it with silicone out of tubes, letting it dry and making my own insert!!

Thanks, but yep, found that one too. They apparently only sell it with the whole bell, clutch, insert, etc. for 24 bucks plus shipping. [:o]

Yeah, it figures that I would end up with one that has an oddball size insert. Might have to go to a 3" bell like you said. It works pretty good. I have it set up with 14 3800 mah nimh batteries. It started my Echo 58cc single ok, and does really well on 20 to 45cc engines, but it won't start my homemade Echo 48cc twin cylinder engine. I think the batt's are getting a little tired though. I've been thinking of picking up a couple of cheap 2200mah 3 cell Lipoly batteries to run it. 14 of those nimh batteries weren't cheap!! But.... I need to find a new insert. Good thing all my engines start fairly easy by hand. I just like to have the electric starter as a backup in case one gets stubborn and I run out of patience...
