Wow, I've seen questions that left out a lot of details, but this one takes the cake

Well, not to make this thread too serious or anything but how does one control the pendulum effect? I find I get a few good seconds of stable flight then it's "No, don't go that way... oops, overcorrected ... no, come back here ... ah crap not the wall!!! *BLAM!*

So what tricks are there to getting a stable hover? I've done everything I can with the bird itself, leveled the swashplate, servos as close to 90 as possible, blades balanced both for CoG and weight. But once it starts darting out of hover it's the whole too much this way, too much that way until I land or crash.

If your are hovering within 3 or 4 feet of the ground it might be doing that due to dirty air..getting buffeted around. Same thing if you are flying in a small area or next to walls, furniture etc.. all of that messes with air flow. If you are hovering higher than that the only answer I have would be to anticipate what and where the heli is moving before it gets there and don't over correct, just compensate/balance it out. A large part of it is a good heli setup and practice.. without that, you will always be fighting to stay with the heli instead of commanding it. You should be thinking about what the heli will do based on your input instead of reacting to what it does. Don't chase and correct, control and then compensate.

..and you mentioned you have the heli setup, but have you tried small adjustments of the pitch knob (and then a new fine tune of the rudder) to smooth out the hover and gain more control?

I don't want to sound flippant but it really just comes down to practice, practice, practice... or a good computer radio wtih exp can help reduce it.

This topic is posted in the Beginner forum by the same poster............ I find that to be a bit irritating but in the other thread there are some much better answers. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_7068669/tm.htm

Try there and see if that will get you some more detailed info.

EDIT: sorry guys..... what I meant was some more answers, both of yours are good answers and the same goes for all contributers to theis forum. All have good ideas and thier own experiences, I try to learn from most!
