Default My Helis

Well, I'm in the process of changing a lot of my receivers on my helis and doing some maintenance on them all so I thought I'd take a picture of some of the fleet along with my new JR 12X radio and the box of the Trex 500 I still have to build.

As you'll notice most of them have the wires hanging out, in the picture only the lama v3/v4 extreme hybrid and the hurricane 550 are ready to fly.

In order from left to right they are:

Esky Lama v3/v4 w/ extreme upgrades

Esky King2 w/ the head and tail upgraded, 3800kv motor, ball link on the servos, xtreme turnbuckles, anti rotation bracket and 43t upgrade, ds285 servos w/ telebee gyro and 3154 on the tail

Esky Belt CP Carbon Frame w/ all the available aluminum upgrades, Align 430X w/ BL35X motor and esc, HS56HB w/ logictech 2100t and 3154 tail.

Trex 450 SE V1, Align 430XL w/ BL35X, HS65HB, GY401 w/ 9650

Hirobo Lepton EX w/ kontronic motor and hyperion 80amp esc, 3150 on cyclic w/ JR 7703D and 3400G on tail

Hurricane EP550 w/ 980kv motor, CC 60amp esc, Airtonic servos, GY401 gyro

Trex 600N Pro (currently taken apart to add carbsmart and do some maintenance), Align Hyper 50, Align tuned pipe, BLS 451 on cyclic, Curtis Youngblood solid G gyro and ATG governor w/ JR 8900g on tail and now carbsmart run by a DS285 servo w/ a 3150 on throttle

Not shown in the pics are my other 2 hurricanes and my hdx 450se v3 and of course, the new Trex 500 which still has to be built....

Impressive. I have heard a lot of good stuff about the Carbsmart. Your fleet makes mine look small. I am thinking about the T-Rex 500 CF as my next helicopter, but I want some more flight time in before I get one. Have fun with the T-Rex build.

Yep, although I'm trying to sell that hurricane 550 in the pic. I really don't want to end up with more than 10 helis... I think that is my limit. I'm trying to built up my fleet of nitro off road right now.

the canopies are all off as I was replacing all the receivers. Some had futaba servos and I'm upgrading all of those with AR7000's, the AR7000's came off the larger helis which I'm replacing with AR9000's and in one case a JR 1221. I suppose I could take another pic with the canopies on but I haven't finished with my upgrades and set up yet. So tedious setting up a heli to a new radio.... and I have to do it 10 times!!

I have the same red and white T-Rex blades on my Belt CP. Thats a nice fleet, my fleet is only a CX2 and my Belt CP, but I love it.

Right now, it would have to be the Lepton. The quality of it is amazing, more stable than a 450 but I can still fly it in my backyard. With a 5S setup it rocks. Next would be the 600N Pro but I can't fly that everywhere, it only flies once a week at most. After that is my CF hurricane....

Lepton? It's a heli? Who makes it? Can I buy one to practice in the family room with?
Lepton I thought was a elemental particle[8D].. oh never mind its part of a atomic nucleus and so small that if you drop one off the workbench you will never find it!

I hate to zero in on one heli, but I have a question on the King 2(which some of you seem to have). I bought this with a brushless motor that has an 11 tooth brass pinion on it. The heli is wicked fast and a little hard for me to control right now - super sensitive to stick input. I'd like to see if I can slow it down a little. I'd like to use a 10 tooth or maybe even a 9 tooth. This brass pinion has also loosened up in the short time I've had it, so, I think I'd favor a steel pinion over a brass thinking the steel might hold the set screw a little better(the set screw seemed to be tight, but the pinion was spinning free). Can any of you guys tell me where to get these pinions? I've looked at places I've had recommended but can't find what I need. The motor has a 3.17mm shaft. The main gear is a .5 mod (pitch?). BTW, it came with a set of exploding Extreme blades[:'(], but I'm back to stock wooden ones. Thanks.

If you want to tame it down, move the link on the servo arms in a spot. Also, make sure you use loctite on the set screw of the pinion.

As to the Lepton, it's a Hirobo product, the Lepton EX. 500 size (like the trex 500) but been out for longer and better designed layout (imo). Quality is outstanding as it's made in Japan.

I had thought of moving the links on the arms. Thanks.

You can also add some more weight to the flybar for increased stability.

Nice fleet. The Lepton seems to be a favorite with advanced 3D pilots. As for elemental nuclear physics, I believe the lepton may be a particle that is gone before it exists- or is that a quark?

Yep, I just picked up another one used so I'll have two. It's a good thing I'm selling that Hurricane off.... if I ever get anything besides a low ball offer that is.

I had the same problem with the scorpion motor on my CopterX. Even with the loctite it would still loosen up right away.
I ended up grinding a little flat spot on the motor shaft right where the set screw seats. Havent had any problems since.

Nice fleet Druss.
How long ago did you get into helis?

LOL, only around 2 years but I love to fly and tinker and fly then tinker some more. I think it's the engineer in me, always loved to take things apart then put them back together. I've been doing cars forever but helis were just too expensive until recently (last 5 years or so).
