Default 2.4ghz Antenna help!!!!

I dont know how it happened, maybe I'm just awsome like that, but my antenna on the Rx is now MIA. I still get good range with it but some areas I fly I find that I'm limited to about 25-30ft. In that back yard I can go about 80ft. Was wonder if I could simply solider on a new antenna? If so what's the stock length on the 2.4 antenna? Thanks guys, Joe

Hey Joey,

I don't know how much help it is to you, but on my 2.4GHz Big Lama the Rx antenna (aerial "wire") is 30mm (3 cm or my length converter says that is 1.181 inches) and that is only the part that shows so I would add a little more...

Hope this helps

Peter

From what I saw before I lost it, it didnt seem like a standard wire, but if I use some regular antenna wire do you think I'll be ok?

Hey again Joey,

It does seem stiffer - but I imagine that standard antenna wire (or even a paper clip) will do! I think it is the length that you have to be more accurate in making it rather than the width or type of wire - so try to make it stick out by 30mm-31mm (a little over 1")
I'm not very good at converting to inches but 26mm is exactly 1 inch[sm=49_49.gif]

Peter
P.S. Any wire should let you see an improvement

I'm following this thread closely.
I never noticed an aerial on my 4 in1.
It may have been there in the very beginning and I just didn't notice it.
Anyhow it hasn't been there for some time.
I haven't had a problem, just lucky I know.

I had to buy a soldering iron the other day to solder back on a wire to my extreme SE180 motor.
So I'll have ago at this as well.
Is it exactly 30mm from the edge of the plastic cover or from the middle of the solder blob?
Cheers
D

Hey again D,

I'm not sure that a 2.4G Lama3 actually has an aerial on their 4in1[sm=50_50.gif]. I was measuring on a Big Lama for, what I assume, was a Belt CP - and then it is 30mm from the plastic cover (so add another half to one mm extra)

Do all 2.4G have the same short aerial wire?

You have a 2.4ghz too? And you just noticed that your Rx antenna is missing? Have you had any problems?

Yes all 2.4ghz has a short antenna. I'm having so much fun flying that I dont feel like ripping the Rx out and apart to fix it. Hahaha But I also found a new one is only $25.

Joey ~

LMAO.... I was the same way as you when I was in Cali last year with my Trex 450 and flying around for about a month with just one of the little antenae's on the AR6100 rx. Eventually, I just found another piece of wire that was similiar (but not in color ) and just spot welded it on, and its been working great still for 6 months so far.... Spektrum says on there site how long the antenae's should be. I thought it was 1 1/4" but can't remember.

Although I had no probs flying with just one on the RX, and the replacement wire seems to be doing great also... But its just for the 450... I would probably be hesitant in trying to fix the RX in one of my bigger birds.

Edit : Here's Spektrum's website which claims the wire is 30mm in length like Peter said above :

I thought I'd let you guys know.
I soldered my bit of wire onto the 4 in 1.
Amazing myself in the process.
I only brought the soldering iron last week and I soldered at school about five times, that was about 20 years ago.
Well I'm pleased to report it seems fine, although it seemed fine before putting the wire on though...
Good luck
D
