v4 out of control
 

Hey guys,


I was flying my V4 around tonight when the stabilizer bar got chopped up in the blades (bout 6th time its happened)

i noticed the TX batts were low, so i replaced em

Now the heli rotates w/o me touching it so it flies around out of control and i just recently flew into the wall cuz i couldnt control it

any ideas?

Couple of things come to mind... make sure the the inner shaft gear setscrew is tight and not slipping on the shaft. Check the swashplate and make sure it hasn't separated. Snap it back together, if it has.

How about the stabalizer bar? How did you fix it after it got chopped up?

fiddle with the proportional... unplug.. turn small turn.. plug back.. try lift off an notice the difference

Fixed the stabilizer bar, swashplates fine, inner shaft screw is fine, havent touched the prop yet

My lama v4 is out of control too... I'm waiting for extreme blades and alum. shaft/ swashplate etc... hoping that fixes the problem. You mentioned changing tx batteries - how many flights can you get out of the 8 AA's? Did you finally get yours flighing straight?

You mean rotating on it's axis ? - I.E the tail is going round in circles - or rotating as if the pitch is out of trim correction?

As everyone else says:
Check the inner shaft is straight,the retainer collar is still tight and the gearing isn't slipping. Check that the blade retainers aren't damaged. Check the flybar is properly balanced, and located accuratley.

It the tail is rotating like mad, then make sure your battery is totally charged, both servos are mechanically centered, the push rods aren't bent and the swash is level and in one piece, and also that the retaining finger on the swash is located in the guide rail.

Set all your trims to center, and turn the TX on, then V4. Let is settle for a few mins until the status light is green, and apply throttle. if the tail starts rotating immediatley, try and correct it with the trim, if this doens't work, then go through thte normal routine as per initial setup.

I've been struggling with my Lama ever since it took a 60' fall out of the sky. Really wasn't much apparent damage, but after repairing the obvious it had developed a strong CCW spin. Tried adjusting the proportional till it was maxed, but still had the CCW spin. I've replaced everything but the frame (which was fine). Tried different X-mitters and RX, but still the CCW spin. Maddening! [:@]

Just dawned on me today [sm=50_50.gif] that I hadn't tried replacing the crystal in the RX. Hmmm. Okay, I'll try that and let you know what the results are. If it's been that all along, I'm going to kick myself [sm=red_smile.gif]

if it's spinning then one of the motors may be going.

Yeah, That was one of the first things I thought of and replaced both the motors, but it made no difference. Tried different crystals yesterday and still no difference. It's top rotor just doesn't have enough authority for some reason and I can't find anything mechanically that is outta wack. If I could just get more proportional adjustment out of the RX all would be fine, but it's maxed and this is the second RX I've tried on it.

Oh well, all this doesn't have me grounded. I've got my CX2, which I've "Extremed" out and it flies beautifully and looks good too [8D] but this Lama tasks me.

OK, similar problem guys... the lower gear wobbles when I run at slow rpm, so I guess the inner shaft needs replacement?
Also, one of the swashplate servos went out of line. I turned the tx off and set it at 90 degrees, but everytime I turn on the tx again, it resets itself way off.
HELP!

ok, and now it's sputtering... kind of as if it were a gas chopper running on fumes. Is that the motor going?

What got you in this shape? Bad crash or this just started happening spontaneously? Wobbly gear is either a bent shaft or bad or unseated bearing. When adjusting the servo arms, you need to have the TX/RX on. Remove the arm, Turn on the TX then RX and reinstall the arm at 90 degrees and check the throw with TX inputs. Readjust your connecting rods as necessary. Also check that the lower rotor head hasn't got shoved down or up and thrown your swash off. If you had a bad crash, it's possible that you stripped the servo gear. NOTE: I would remove the blades while messing with the TX/RX powered up, just in case;)

I've never heard an e-motor "sputter" before, but check the gears for stripped sections and check for binding. If all is OK then the motors may need replacing. If you need to replace them, then get the Extreme ball bearing motors. They'll last longer and the brushes are replaceable.
