Thought you might get a kick and good laugh out of my Rubber band powered fleet. They will both fly and hover for a few seconds. The plans are free on the net. I think it is called a "Penni Flyer". Need really good quality rubbers though, the office variety just don't do it.

sweet,,, probably flies better then some of my birds. when a newbie ask for recomendations you should refer them to these.. replacement parts are cheap:}:}

They were a lot of fun to build, learned alot about making blades. Maybe I should make a pair for my HB just to try it? I think my total time and investment for each was about 4hrs and $3.00 :D Yep...cheap parts! I went all out on the last one and used a glass bead for a bearing between the main drive pulley and frame. Made a huge difference in flight time and rotor speed. I would highly recommend building one just for the fun of it!

Yes the first one was all balsa but the tail boom was delicate. Used some spruce for the boom on the second one. The pulleys are balsa, the tail rotor is driven by a looped thread. I am amazed I haven't broken one yet and no slippage, ratio about 4:1. I strengthened the motor casing on the second one to allow for more rubber band tension.
