RE: hbk2
Everyone seems to quickly add a brushless motor (which usually means a new, larger speed controller too)... On SubZero's YouTube set up videos (he spells the user name differently - so look around and search "honeybee king 2 setup"), he suggests alumimum parts because they break less easily.
I've had my HBK2 for almost two months now, and I'm in the process of upgrading just about everything... New tail drive pulley, new HH gyro (logitech 2100T), matching LTS-3100G tail servo, 3900kv brushless motor, 25A HobbyWing ESC, much larger high-discharge battery (1800mah), new battery charger, and a Dx6i transmitter with matching receiver. After I get all that done, I'm going to upgrade to Aluminum rotor and tail parts too. So I think the HBK2 can fly without all these upgrades, but hopefully it will fly much better with them! Hope this helps! Dave |
RE: hbk2
I'd do motor and ESC @ minimum as the stock will be short lived.
My setup ESKY 3800kv, 33a ESC 11t pinion, 1500mah 15c and 2200 20c batteries. |
RE: hbk2
Rosebuds right... A few things need to be changed right away on the K2 because the stock parts are really junky. So change the motor to a brushless or outrunner as they are known by and a 25-30A ESC. After that get plenty of plastic spare bits, flybars, feathering shafts etc. So you don't have to wait on parts to arrive so you can keep flying. I wouldn't get the cnc head and tail until you were hovering without smacking into to many heli magnets any more. Its better to upgrade other things first. Hope this helps some happy fly'n |
RE: hbk2
I forgot to mention the Xtreme plastic main blades that I got early on. These are very inexpensive ($6.60 at http://www.ushobbysupply.com/product...63020130d54fb0 - (can't say enough good things about this company, good selection, great prices, cheap shipping, quick delivery, and excellent technical and pre-sales support)) and are supposed to stand up much better than the stock wooden blades do. That has been my experience! I'd probably be in my 5th set of woodies by now, but still have my first pair of the Xtreme blades on. Still look perfect too. These blades are fitted for the HBK2 (275mm), so will not chop up your tail or tail boom short of a bad crash - as some of the other generic upgrade blades may do because they're designed for bigger choppers.
Recently some of the new lots of these Xtreme blades have had a rather serious and dangerous manafacturing defect, which is that the blades break off when they are spinning fast. This is not only bad for the helicopter, but for anyone near by. I've seen several threads with posts that have pictures... After I saw those posts, I contacted Michael at U.S. Hobby Supply to see if he had heard about this problem. He said that it was supposed to be limited to a few of the newer batches of blades, that his stock was older, and that none of his customers had reported any occurance of this. I kept mine on! Cheers - Dave |
RE: hbk2
engraved , You can always buy a used hbk2.It will most likely have a ton of upgrades and spare parts for a lot less money. At this point of your training you would be better off.Just a thought.............:D

RE: hbk2
To those still using the Xtreme blades... you shouldn't actually be using them as they are discontinued because of the defect. It has to do with the holes near the blade root which causes them to fail. DO NOT BUY XTREME BLADES as they are discontinued and dangerous to use. If you have blades now Xtreme will be replacing them with the NEW remoldeled blades that the are releasing on or about the 10th of this month. The NEW blades will be black. Again... Xtreme will replace all the blade sets you have for new ones. IF you have no other blades to replace the plastic ones with Xtreme will send you a set of woodies to keep you fly'n until they release the new blades... Just email them and they will sennd to you a set of woodies... They sure got a set to me FAST. Xtreme has been VERY good to deal with. You can also contact them thru "Miracle Mart" Happy and safe Fly'n |
RE: hbk2
They didnt say anything about sending me a woodie set...they just said to just send them my address and they will be shipped out around the 10th. I wasnt a big fan of those anyway, gave my heli a huge shake.
