Marlon-

Here are the fields I am aware of :

Palomar RC Flyers - Hwy 15 & 76 Fallbrook
South Bay RC (??) - Off Hwy 5 close to border (Dairy Mart Rd. ?)
Misson Bay - Electrics Only off Friars Rd east of Sea World
Miramar - Joint civi and military club (have not been there) think u need escort
Camp Pendleton - Hwy 5 & Los Pulgas Rd + plus 10 miles into camp - been there - parade ground - open SAT & SUN joint military & civi club - think u need escort
Bonsall - dirt strip close to Hwy 76 3-5 miles west of Hwy 15
Wingmasters (?) - Hwy 15 & Gopher Canyon Rd - southwest - hard to find without map

There are fields in east county - Santee, etc. Havent been to those

Hope this helps

thanks for the info mike. i just found a site right now with all the clubs in san diego and directions to where they fly. i also found another one just in case you didn't know about it. its right off of proctor valley road above otay lakes. looks like a real nice deserted area. im new to this forum and don't have my own plane yet and want to learn more about rc planes. i don't have much to spend on a trainer either probably at most 300 for all the equipment. preferably a gas powered rc plane. thanks for all the info though.

Marlon-

Our club (Palomar RC Flyers) will let you fly once in the company of a member if you have AMA without paying. Guests are always welcome at our site to talk/watch/listen/learn... That should be the case at most/all clubs in the area.

thanks for the url

I don't know any areas close by that fly Jets where you can just walk on and watch. Camp Pendleton has a field where I watched Turbine Jets fly, but you need an escort.

They fly Jets in the desert, but I'm not sure where.

Come out to Palomar RC Flyers any time you want. It's locked during the weekdays, but just hang by the gate and ask someone if you can come in and watch. On the weekends, the gate is always unlocked.

Marlon -

I had heard one time that they allowed jets at Miramar.
If you use the link posted above in this thread, they give instructions to that field. Sounds like the gate is locked but you might be able to walk on.

Miramar MCAS. I-15 exit east on Pomerado Road; go 500 yds turn south into Naval/ Marine Corps Reserve Center. Stop at gate at left turn in road. Entry gate is locked.

I'm in the area and would be happy to help you out if you still need it. Weekday evenings and Saturdays I'm usually available. If you've got a Futaba TX, I have a trainining cord.

Note to MHawker:

Do you still have the Double Vision??

hksmr2rbo,

We haven't got any turbines at our field, ( http://www.palomarrcflyers.org ), but we have a top-notch site, and if the instructors can get me to solo, they can get anyone to solo. I have been flying there every weekday with few exceptions since I solo'd in November. (Shhh...don't tell my customers).

I think it would be worth the drive for you. Heck, I drive from Corona. But I work down there so I guess that's kinda cheating....

COME ON DOWN!!

If you are in El Cajon, there is a club field in Lakeside right across Ashwood street from El Capitan High School. It is the Weedwacker Aero Squadron and there are plenty of folks there on weekends to help you.

Well,

Seeing as this thread has been revived from OVER 2 MONTHS AGO....ahem....

I will take this opportunity to promote an event that is going on right now in Chula Vista. The TeamFlyingCirkus.com guys are hosting a huckfest (3D aerobatics) fly-in this weekend, It was wicked today and more to come tomorrow. Some of the best 3D guys in the country are there and it is GOING OFF! Sadly, a few planes have been lost or damaged because these guys are pushing the limits, (without sacrificing safety, of course).

If you are within a tank of gas or two, it's well worth the drive.

C'mon DOWN!! I-5 South to Dairy Mart Rd. turn right and look for the SMOKE!!

..and yes, You can easily see, (even throw a rock into), Mexico from here....looks just like Santa Ana, L.A. or Tucson.

I can't wait for tomorrow!!.... gonna be there all darn day.

Hope to see you all there,

Mark
