Oh, man talk about a huge building!!!

Guys: I was able to visit the building where the E-fly is going to take place. This place is huge! I had the opportunity to visit E-Fest last February and the Armory building is less than half of what this building is. It was a little hard to appreciate the space, as there was an event going on while we visited, but the scale can be appreciated when we went to the observation booth on the second floor. Sorry I don't have any additional pictures.

Ken and the rest of the staff are working hard to make this the best E-event in the mid-west.

According to the preliminary plan, there will be 4 flight areas. One for helicopters, one for 3D planes, one for mini / peanut, and one for regular airplane flying. All 4 areas will be independent of each other. There will be access for pilots with badges and spectators with passes at 3 different locations around the building. There will be electrical power within 100 ft of almost every pilot table. I also had a chance to see the proposed trophies for the competition portion and if they accept them I tell you that they will be one of a kind. The plan for the vendors and booths include flight simulators and audio-visual presentations. I can't tell you much more because I don't have the list of vendors/sponsors yet.

So pencil in this event on your calendar, and make every effort to spend the weekend with us in Wichita. You'll be glad you did.

We were able to go to the building one more time to discuss layout and to fly for a little. Here are a few of the pictures taken:

If you are a vendor, and are interested in having a booth for this event you better act fast. Give Ken a call or e-mail at 316-680-5239; email [email protected] to discuss the details.

Last week we had the opportunity to participate at another expo at the same building, the Century II in Wichita. A big thank you goes to Scott Glasgow and Brandon Chitty for keeping the crowd entertained for the whole day. The area reserved for us at this event was about 60 x 60 ft and there was more than ample space for those two guys to do some amazing stuff. Here are some pictures:

Some of he highlights include: several blade scuffs on a Trex 450, and a Trex 500; an unexpected tangle with the backdrop curtain that took a Trex 450 out of commission, hanging a foamy airplane on the rafters of the building, and several less than soft landings that left some of the foamies with motors hanging by the motor leads.

This promises to be a great event, Ken, his family and friends always put on excellent events. I am supposed to get pictures of the trophies in a few days, I will post them on here too when I get them.

Hope to see you there!

Just as a reminder, if you don't have an AMA membership you can go two ways; either way, if you join now, your membership will be good from now until December 31st 2009.

You can join as a regular member or as a Park pilot, bot are acceptable at this event.

So, if not having an AMA membership was keeping you from entering, you have two options to pick. You will be able to join the AMA at the registration table at the event.

Hope to see you all there!

After I posted the last message Ken called me and reminded me that the hotel rates set aside for the fun fly expire Wednesay December 10. If you are planning on staying at the Hyatt, you better make the reservations now so you can lock in the fun fly price of $79 +tax. Otherwise you will end up paying a higher price. The Hyatt is physically connected to the Exp hall. You will be able to leave your room and walk down a walkway right into the expo hall.

The other closest hotel is the Broadview, and it is withing walking distance of the expo hall. There are many other hotels in the Wichita area if you need assistance please let me or Ken know and we will assist you on finding a suitable hotel for you.

Edit: I got my calendar screwed up!

Ken, me and a few of the staff members spent the few last minutes in the building going over possible points of improvement for next year. We will try to incorporate as many of the suggestions given to us as possible.

All I have to say is that the event would not have been possible without you guys coming and making it as successful as it was. I had a great time this weekend and had a blast flying some of the aircraft that you guys brought and asked me to try them.

I have posted some of the pictures my wife, Lizzie, and I took during the event. I wish I had the time to take more pictures.

My pictures are here:

And here are some pics and video:

Again, thanks to all of you that came over and spent the weekend with us. Ken and the staff had a great time putting the event together and as I mentioned, we are already looking forward to next year.

E-Fly Spectacular 2009!

Great News! Mark your calendars!

Spent some time with Ken on the phone a couple of days ago. The dates for the E-Fly Spectacular for 2009 are:

December 10-13, 2009.

Improvements to date include:
Doors open on thursday at 5 pm for general public and pilots.
Doors close at 2 pm on Sunday.
The F3C competition will be spread out over the weekend instead of blocking 2-3 hours at peak on Saturday.

Everything else will stay pretty much the same.

For more information please go to:

The website will be updated soon. The webmaster's mom is very ill and we hope that she gets better soon.

Rafael
