Ok
Here is my new Fokker DR-1 almost ready. It will fly at the MAD Patrol. It is third scale with a DLE 111. Scratch built using Ron Wise plans. I had built three of them this winter but only one will be ready for the MAD Patrol.
Just so you all know we have been asked to do a flyby for a wedding on Saturday late afternoon. So we will need a bunch of Fokkers and those things the British flew.

edokarlb 08-11-2013 12:38 PM

Looks great as usual Scott. Can't wait for Mad Patrol to see it fly.

rschaffer 08-15-2013 02:48 PM

Looking forward to this year's event. I only watched last year, and still had an incredible time. Lots of really great planes, great flying and lots of fun. I can't wait to get the little SPAD up amongst all those huge Fokkers and start some chicken shooting.....Look out, here comes that crazy chicken plane....

sidthecat 09-01-2013 06:01 PM

Balsa USA has sent me 6 coupons for 20% off anything and 1 cert. for any kit. (But not The Albatros)

Calling all WW-1 Pilots ! !

If you have never heard of the Mid-Atlantic Dawn PAtrol (MAD PAtrol for short, no worries. This is our second annual event and it is already shaping up to be an even bigger success than last years inagural event.

- Mostly because the focus is on you the pilots and our great venue. No heavy handed oversight as we all know you can fly the pants off with your big biplanes and Triplanes.
- Event location is at the Military Aviation Museum in Virginia Beach VA. (over 14 full scale flying WW-1 replicas. Despite some persistent rumors, the museum is not closing. our event is 100% a go.

I could not post the actual event flyer, but to reduce it for RCU. With only a month to go thought I needed to ensure you had the latest info.

Here are two links to show you the flyer, adapted with the Museums help from well known aviation artist Russell Smith.

http://www.flytrc.com/flytrc/Welcome.html use this link for pilot registration too!

and our founding sponser Glenn Torrance Models at: http://www.flygtm.com/

First off Pilot registration is only$35.00 for 4 days Oct 3-6.
working with the museum, the Tidewater R/C club (TRC) has garnered a totally different prize for this year. I think you are going to like it. I bet the Ohio Dawn Patrol crowd, (HPA, Barry V, Art and Rhonda, Jeff and Gary) who are attending in mass this year are drooling over this one.

The Military Aviation Museum has donated a 30 minute free ride in their N2S Stearman to some lucky winner during the raffle. Only r/c pilots will be allowed to enter which a ticket is included in your landing fee.http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1917229

Flying site is the Military Aviation Museum in Virginia Beach VA. this is an all grass cross runway 5000 feet by 2000 feet. The museum features over 30 full size replica or resored airworthy WW-I and WW-2 aircraft.

So for a Dawn patrol event be sure to come see:
3 Fokker DR-1
1 Fokker D-7
1 Fokker C-1 (twin seat)
1 Albatros
1 Fokker D-6
1 Sopwith Camel
1 Sopwith 1 1/2 Strutter
1 Nieuport 17
1 Avro
1 SE5.a
1 Spad XIII (80%)
1 Halbertstadt CL IV

Other unique aircraft
1 Bleriot XI
1 Wright Brother Model EX

unfortunatly the black Fokker DVIII and the Sopwith camel have moved on to another collector.

Since poster did not show let me say you can see the original painting at Russell Smith Studies. http://www.russellsmithart.com/Small...0Quarters.html
Be sure to check out his Details section of the painting

His website states:
Close Quarters was created as cover artwork for the 100th issue of Over The Front. The event occurred on Sept 26, 1918 at approximately 5:50pm and involved SPADs from the 95th and 27th Aero Squadrons, Fokker DVII's of Jasta 13, and a Salmson 2A2. The fight resulted in the death of Lt. Ivan Roberts of 27Sq, seen here in the foreground. Roberts is credited to Lt Franz Büchner of Jasta 13. As Büchner was making his kill at nearly point blank range, Lt. Gravatt of 95 Sq (at the top of the 3-plane grouping) almost collided with him. Also involved in the fight was Lt. Frank Luke Jr., who can be seen in the lower left diving off into the distance

By the way, as an added bonus, there's a plane at the museum worth your trip coming here. The museum has the world's only flying Dehavilland Mosquito (Y-EG, pictured below), and yes, you can walk up to it and touch it!! I know it's not WW1, but where else will you ever see one in your lifetime? - Pert

My favorite last year was by Mike Gross, New York Check out his latest build: a new 1/3 scale GTM Dr1 Triplane. I spoke with Mike at Warbirds over Delaware in July, and although prob not ready in time for MAD, you have to check his building out his DR-1 here: http://www.flygtm.com/

Last year Mike won the coveted "Pilots Choice" award with his beautiful built and well flying 1/3 scale Sopwith Camel. What you bringing this year Mike?

Also note his son, Marshall, who runs Red 5 designs, http://red5designs.com/ finish in very short order for me paint masks for my 1/3 Sopwith Tripehound. He hand deliverd them to me at WOD in July.
- Top notch customer service and Red 5 Designs also provided custom graphics in vinal or paint masks- including 4 top gun winners.

As to my tripe- unfortunatly my lazy builder is over worked and I did not get all the wings built in time. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1917240
