Long time no hear Martin! Good to see you are still around.

Email your address --- I have something for you. Bear in mind the cylinder bore is about the width of a standard pencil.

I was able to get the LD 0,18 to run, but after 10 seconds or so (as soon as it warmed up) it died. Just not enough compression any more. It is a truism that the little ones are taken out more quickly due to operational wear.

Here is the explanation to the photo posted below.

I bought the engine used. "As received" the LD 0,18 when flipped with atomised fuel in the chamber would show incipient hydro-lock even with the contra-piston backed out to the top of the cylinder. So when it did fire, the prop would usually end up "oscillating". Frustration ... as it is a first class piece of machinery. I am glad I did not persist and risk shearing its crank pin or bending the con-rod.

Perhaps it was missing a shim. As a no-loss dodge to raise the liner I made up two spacers from 0.4 mm automotive gasket paper. When the jacket is screwed tight they compress and seal between the machined top of the case and the cylinder flange.

As received the piston at BDC did sit a little above the bottom of the exhaust port. Lifting the liner did nothing for the piston fit, but the piston sits just under the bottom of the exhaust port at BDC and I could at least flick the engine over with proper compression control, rather than permanent over-compression.

Did it work? Yes, it fires, and sounds much happier. However with its slack piston fit it won't sustain a run.

A stupid question perhaps, but are you using ignition improver? That really helps with these tiny diesels.
