MVVS .09 benchrunning

Thread Starter

I did some bench running today and just though I would share some numbers. I bought this engine a long time ago but struggled with the settings due to a faulty needle (needle was too short and didn't reach its seat). I have checked the transfer ports for different sizes but these seem to be very similar in size, so no need to change anything there. With the optional muffler on it runs very nice and idles down to 3000-3500 and will stay there all day...
Here are two videos, APC 8x4 prop (top revs around 11700rpm);
http://youtu.be/wO7IvFcOLaU And with APC 9x4 prop (top revs around 9600rpm);

It worries me to see engines being held in these type of stands, without proper clamping.
There is nothing to stop the handles vibrating loose and deposit your running engine at your feet (or worse).
A couple of G clamps would take any risk out of the equation.

Agreed Greg.
I also have concerns when using a light weight 'work-mate' type stand for bench running. Not really an issue with an .09; but if running something like a Taplin Twin flat-chat on a 13 x 6 prop, it could pull the stand with the draught. I put an old lawn tractor battery on it for ballast, and secure that as well.
