Default RE: Taplin Twin

I recently purchased a MKIII Taplin twin. It is NIB. I would like to run it on my test bench, as I do with all of my engines. I am planning to build a '40/'50s design airplane around it. Any suggestions?

There are very many choices:
KK Falcon, BB Majestic Major, HV450, etc.
The Radio Queen flies particularly well with a Taplin Twin.
Note that the aircraft mentioned all have upright engines.
When you use a nice old engine (including Indian production), it's nice to actually see the engine, and not have it buried inverted, inside the cowling.

There should be a spiral wound spring under the main needle to maintain tension. Yours appears to have a second nut added to act as a lock nut, presumably to prevent the needle wandering.

A suitable coil wound spring should be easy to fabricate or locate.

Your engine appears to be an early Aurora production. Does it have "made in England" stamped on the top of one of the mounting lugs?

I put my Taplin Twin in a House of Balsa Petenpol at the time. It was a great combination too. The engine was amazingly quiet too. Once airborne it was more like flying an electric motor powered plane. So I would suggest something along that line. Maybe a Bleriot for example or something similar.
