Default Welcome Davis Diesel to the RCU direct support forums

I would like to welcome Davis Diesel to the engine manufacturer direct support forums here at RCU. Bob Davis will help field your questions about the intriguing line of diesel conversion products they manufacture and sell.

Default Factors

Mr. Davis, could you spell out some of the factors to use in deciding what rpm to prop a given engine for. For instance I like to prop mine in the 8,000 to 8,500 rpm range but others say 9,500 to 10,000 rpm is better. It seems like each engine has a sweet spot, for instance my Fox .50 runs great on a 12x6 at about 8,300 and my Fox Eagle .74 about 9,100 with a 12x8 three blade.

Default Propeller picking

As a general rule of thumb a .40 diesel runs best on 11x7 and 12x6. a .46 on a 11x8 and 12x7 and a .50 11x9 and 12x8. The way the plane flys is key in the end. I think its a very personal thing. That's the beauty of ajustable timing.
