Default SUPER TIGER 2000

I have a Super Tiger 2000 with a Davis Diesel head on it. I know absolutely nothing about diesel engines. I got this
engine at our club auction. I would like to bench test this engine and get it running.

What fuel should I use and where do I order it?

Can you give me any suggestions about initial set up and settings?

What prop would you use for test bench purposes?

Any help you could give would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

use a mix of 20% sae 50 oil (or 20W50) with 30% ether and balance lamp oil. John Deere starter fluid will work for ether. In that case you shhould use more % because the starter fluid is not 100% ether I believe.
For props, start with a 20x8

Prime the engine only a few drops fuel. A flooded diesel will not start, unless you put your power drill on it to clean the lungs again.

I would like to buy diesel already mixed for this engine. I will get in touch with Diesel Dave.

Does anyone know what size prop I should start with and approximately what size plane this will pull?

Will a diesel pull a bigger plane than a glow of the same size?

Mine is a Super Tiger 2000.

Tower only carries this Plane Fuel which is more suitable for bushing engines. Martin or someone else may know who has the Davis ABC mix.

Davis will sell you the right fuel, but charge you out the nose for shipping.

I think you need to go out and buy a big wooden 16x8 for that baby. Maybe even 18x8.

A diesel conversion will turn an inch or two bigger prop and develop more usable thrust at a lower RPM than the same engine run on the recommended prop size as a glow.

As for a plane size? That set up could probably haul a Senior Telemaster around with authority.

And here I sit getting ready to build a PAW .03 powered Micro Telemaster starting at Spring Break and wondering what the heck I am going to do with an OK Cub .049 diesel...

A Micro Telemaster,, what a great idea. More info please, wingspan, weight, area, pics etc. Are you going to use the lifting tail? That handily eliminates the need for downthrust. But careful, some Telemsters I've seen would balloon up if you chop the throttle too fast.

Also, the larger engines, I've found, don't need as much ether to run well. This might allow making your own fuel a more reasonable proposition. A big engine like that is gonna be thirsty.
