Bottom line Jens (IT WORKS)(YOURS) ....Looking at the drawings of the german diesel (2 Strk)
the same set up would work on 4 stroke if you could run the pump off the cam ( making a
new one and a housing would be a challenge or a 1 to 2 gear off the shaft to a second cam just my thoughts
you guys are the machinists and the crankcase would hold lube oil??
I am intriqued by the injector mini pintle and spray nozzle??I wonder if any of these engines still exist
model museum maybe ,looks like you and AJ are setting some new standards in the engine

Hi all folks, i has runned in my Magnum 52 4 stroke and leaned fuel, it ran nice and fast enough. Drink not much fuel. Has not tachometer to measure rpm. I used 12x6 propeller. Vibration are not much difference from methanol powered 4 stroke engines. After i had runned engine i checked inside of cylinderhead. there are complete combustion and much soot inside. More better photos of metalwork and after running in engine. Between cylinderhead and piston are at 1 mm, calculated from compresion ratio + extra volume from "energy cell" with contra piston. Compresion ratio are between 18:1-25:1.

I have an OS 52 sitting in it's box after hundred's of flights because I am bored with it and have moved on to 1/4 scale aircraft. I would LOVE to do a conversion.
You have a business opportunity here if you have the time. Any chance of offering a conversion service?

I has maked a better design of "energy cell" than early with 2 screws as shown in other photos of Magnum 52.

How much would you charge me to make me one for an OS .26S-C car engine? It should be the same since all engine sizes use the same glowplugs right.

Impossible, you must replace whole cylinderhead to increase compresion ratio with a cylinderhead maked for dieselfuel, it has contra piston inside.
My 4 stroke engine cylinder head has smaller volume after i removed material with lathe and mounted "energy cell" in cylinder head.

Yes the .26 I am referring to is a four stroke. And I can remove the head gasket and if needed I can shave the sleeve to get more compression.

Joe, when I tried to run Diesel fuel in my Saito .80 as is, it had far too much compression and I couldn't run it more than half throttle. In fact at half throttle it was making dangerous noises.

Since your engine are a car engine, maybe you must add a bigger flywheel to run better in idle..

Hobbsy.. It is not much... Can be cause of form in cylinderhead to develop detonates. Every 4 stroke engine has not same form in cylinder head.. and fuel formula to example try reduce ether 25-30%, without m.e.k.peroxide, oil same as before 20%. If it run well, try add 1 % m.e.k.peroxide, run engine well, try 1% extra.. until engine detonates, then go back to same mixture there engine ran well.
In big engine need less ether/mekp than small engine. Saito .80 are big engine than my engine at Magnum .52.
Try difference sizes of propeller until detonating are removed..

Well, I've just got my old asp 80 4 stroke running on DAVIS fuel. It took some doing ,milling the head and cylinder both but only really needed to mill the head. The lanova cell worked great , made as per Motorboy's picture's. Motorboy is your's steel or aluminum, broke my Aluminum one off in the head- will repair this week. Swing's a 14-6 master airscrew pretty good. Noticed it changed the valve geometry some. All in all it's pretty neat, My buddy is bringing his camera over to post some pic's later

Very well done!!!
I used steel when i maked the lanova cell. My engine works well without problem with material. I used locktite in glowplughole before i screwed the lanova cell at cylinderhead. Before i used spring to hold contrapiston screw, replaced with a nut, it hold better.
I ran my engine long time and drink not much fuel.[8D]

Impressive looks like both of you have closed the gap on making 4 strolke diesels. Now if Saito
or Magnum would do a factory issue this would take care of the "non gifted" among us

I will not recommend Saito engine , when i am thinking about diesel. Cause the valves and combustion camber designs are difference from these engines i has converted. Saito has Hemi/pent-roof comb. camber. Not engines with Wedge comb. camber to example Laser engines.
Better Bath-tub or Discoid comb. camber. And valves in line with piston/sleeve are better, angled valves in cylinderhead make it difficult to convert to diesel.

Hello; Has no one considered the "external combustion chamber" just like the Wright brothers used on their first plane engine. A compressible chamber screwed into the glo plug port. The compression might have to be raised to accomodate the added volume. If the Wrights could do it in 1903 we should be able to do it in 2004.
Another comment on Diesels; I spend 10 hours a day behind a Cummins KTA 600 engine. it has a very narrow power band, only 500 rpm's actually, however it'll keep trying down to about 1400 rpm. If I was designing an aircraft engine I would want one that would be able to give power over a wide rev range. I guess what I mean is, what abot diesels is better for an airplane engine?

"external combustion chamber" using the blowlamp to warm up and get glow at tupe where are screwed outside at cylinder head. It is old ignition method as we use now in our glowplug engine warmed up with electric instead blowlamp.
Lanova combustion camber make better torbulence and mixing fuel/air and warm up rapidly than in cylinderhead and igniting fuel/air mixture, then blow out of camber and burn up all fuel/air mixture in cylinder.

I think a Saito engine would work great with your device, the Saitos very effecient combustion chamber would make the Diesel conversion work very well. The Saitos thrive on high nitro better than most other fourstrokes.
