Davis Diesel do the Traxxis 3.3 but not the 2.5 as far as I know, but there are other who do conversions also.

http://www.davisdieseldevelopment.com/price_list.html

P.S. Ijust rechecked the above link and both the Traxxis 3.3 and the 2.5 have rods made by the same company so perhaps there will be a commonality of parts since it looks like the rod is common to both and maybe the head is also with the 3.3 simply having the longer stroke but the same bore and bolt pattern. I mean why supply the rod for the 2.5 if you don't supply the head ?

If thats the case it would make a nice little torquer.

RE: Traxxas trx 2.5

Just had a look at the Traxxas site and the piston/sleeve is different between the 2.5 and the 3.3 so I doubt that the 3.3 head will fit the 2.5 bvut give Bob Davis a call to confirm this anyway.

5230X Piston/sleeve (matched set), wrist pin clips(2) (TRX 2.5, 2.5R)
5290 Piston/Sleeve (Matched Set), Wrist Pin Clips(2) (TRX 3.3)
(Use with crankcase #5225)

But as I said, there are other diesel conversion head suppliers out there.

For the most part the Traxxas 2.5 out of the picture when the 3.3 was introduced a number of years ago. The 3.3 is a bored out 2.5. There are videos of the 3.3 diesel in a Revo on you tube as well as our site. As for the heavy duty rods that we make for both 2.5/3.3 are needed for glow or diesel as the factory rod has no upper bushing and is in very weak.

But anyway, try Andrew Coholic on the below address -
mailto:[email protected]

Canadian based and a nice fellow also - he usually needs the original glow head posted to him as a template if the engine is somewhat 'unusual' and advice as to what style the outer finning of the head shape should be.

I have one of his conversion heads that has no fins for use in a control line stunter withe the head fully exposed to the prop wash (just think of a shiny bald mans head and you pretty much get the picture here) but if its for inside of an enclosed vehicle like a buggy then you are going to need all the fins that you can get to bleed off the heat. Now I know that diesels can tolerate a hotter operating environment but at 20 000+ rpm I would think that a considerable heat sink would still be needed.

So give Andrew a bell mate, maybe something can be sorted out here.

Oh and the beefed up Davis rod would be a great idea also as diesels can be harsh on the plain bearings of the big and small ends, as well as stressing out the 'knife edge' original rod beyond its design parameter.

Cheers and good luck.
<!EndFragment></meta></meta></meta></meta></meta></meta>

So with this conversion I can run diesel. This is great!

However I am just a little confused. So if i bought a Traxxas Revo 3.3 the said kit would work right? If so what exactly would I need to do this conversion? I am very interested as I am lookin to but a Nitro truck and I am deployed so getting a stable supply of Nitro fuel is pretty much a no-go here.

Thanks for any replies

The head, fuel and the diesel fuel line can be gotten from Davis, the silicon line is not compatible with diesel fuel or gasoline.and has to be changed the whole thing is pretty simple
change head, change fuel line, and his rod, the rod by the way great for glow or diesel, the factory one not good, martin

From the tenor of your question I belive you think you can use diesel from the pump, sorry only model diesel fuel.

Well then thats a bummer.. What is the difference between model diesel and a diesle fuel called JP-8 it is a keresene base fuel. Would you be able to explain to me the research/steps/modifications that I would have to possibly take to get this car to run on it?

Model diesel fuel contains kerosene distilled at 150C to 275C , di-ethyl ether and a lubricating oil like castor.

Road going diesels fuel is petroleum diesel distilled between 200C to 350C, so kero has a lower boiling point and evaporates at a lower flash point as well.

Combining the kero with the ether allows compression ignition engines in models to run far lower compression ratios than their road going counter parts.

Basically thats it I hope!
