Engine Dillema
 

Will try to make a long story short. Last winter I finished building a Mills 1.3 diesel. While building I was hoping it would run but didn't expect much. It runs better then I ever expected. I felt It should be in an airplane. I had a 67 inch Quaker Flash kit for a long time. Decided to build it hoping the engine would pull it. Tried flying it yesterday. Not quite enough engine. Tried different props but the best it would do is fly in ground effect but no climb. I don't have time to build another airplane before winter. I want to continue flying the Quaker. What engine? Thinking About getting a MVVS 2.5 DFS/R. What do you guys think? Carlson shows them on his site for $120. Will a larger then recommended prop at a lower rpm hurt it? I don't need a lot of power. Like lo-n-slo flying best. Would like a good reliable idle. Thanks, Larry

Cool, busilding a Mills .13 engine would be great fun. Congratulations on your success.

A 2.5 diesel engine ought to do the trick for you. Maybe the MP-Jet 1.8cc Atom or the MP-Jet 2.5cc Letmo would work too, hard to say without trying one though.
Carlson's website is basically for reference only. You need to call him on the phone instead to see what he has. Carlson's web developer left him high and dry and he doesn't have the password to the website to edit it anymore. So he hasn't been able to updat the website for several years now.

Pe Reivers still has a couple of the MVVS 2.5cc diesel engines for sale though.

Excuse me for asking but where did you get plans for the mills 1.3 as i have been looking for them but cannot find any.
I would say a PAW .19 could fly that plane pretty well.

How much does the plane weight?
I would think that a PAW 09 would be better suited than the heavy BB MVVS. The PAW 09 mkII spins a 9x4 prop at about 10500rpm, and it is more than enough power for an TT Scooter that I have (57" wingspan and about 750g if I remember correctly).

Thanks for all the replies. I got the plans out of the first issue of Model Engine Builder Magazine. I built mostly to plan except I modified the mixer for a separate fuel tank and I didn't like the full floating pin. Thought it would score the cyl. walls. So I made a press fit in the piston. Larry
